NY-style pizza, classic Italian entrees & subs served in a low-key dining room or for take-out.

We received completely raw chicken tenders. The food was returned and staff seemed unconcerned.
We were apprehensive to order from here again because on two separate occasions this summer my husband and I ate here and got food poisoning the following day, we were unsure, and maybe in denial that it could have possibly came from here since it’s hard to connect which food it truly came from. However, I can’t say confidently that it didn’t come from here either at this point.
There is nothing that could be done to incentivize us to continue to ordering from here, and no apology that would return our business.

Tony’s is a local Italian restaurant in Newark along Chestnut Hill Road (DE 4) in a shopping plaza anchored by the local Shoprite. The dining area is basic, mostly what you’d expect from a local restaurant. However, the decor could use a little bit of an update and then it’d be just right.
The menu features what you’d expect from an Italian restaurant in the orbit of Philadelphia – pizzas, pastas, strombolis, etc. and have a great variety of different pizzas. For my meal, I went with a vegetarian pizza (spinach, tomato and ricotta cheese) and an order of garlic bread. The pizza itself was pretty tasty and the ricotta made a good contrast to the mozzarella on the pie itself and the vegetables were generally nice and fresh. The crust was also pretty decent as it could hold the slice and had just enough crisp for a good thin-crust pizza. The miss for me was the garlic bread. I don’t know if it was the preparation for my particular order, but my bread had some minced garlic topping the butter on the bread rather than well-dispersed in the butter. I love garlic but trying to eat those pieces of minced garlic wasn’t for me as it was bitter. I would like to see them better incorporate the garlic into the bread as that might help the read out. The garlic aside, the bread was nicely baked and had the butter and garlic been better spread I would have really enjoyed it.
The service was decent as well. I didn’t have to wait too long for a refill and the server made sure I was take care of at my table.
Overall, it’s a nice neighborhood Italian restaurant for those local to Newark and you’ll at least get an enjoyable meal if you visit here.

Nice neighborhood pizza joint. Definitely changed hands in the last few years (no updates to the interior, 90s throwback vibe). Pizza was hot and the crust was tasty. It’s a chill, seat yourself kinda place otherwise take out or delivery works too.
*The menu lists beer options however none is available.

Pizza was very good. Great crust, and I usually don’t eat the crust. The issue was the cleanliness of the place. So dusty and dirty. See the pics…. The ceiling has never been cleaned makes me wonder about the kitchen. But the pizza was very good so there’s that. I probably won’t go back.

Stromboli was good, pizza was decent, chicken parm was bland.

It’s a really cute tiny sit in area but i absolutely loved it!! The food was reasonably priced and came out relatively quickly. We loved everything we ate and it’s hard to like a pizza places’ sides too but this place offers everything. 10/10 everyone should support small businesses like these <3

This place participates in the Too Good To Go program. I never patronized this place before and never will again. However, due to location and availability of participating restaurants, I selected this place. When I arrived to pick up my ‘surprise bag’, the staff began to talk in their language (manager included) and gave me these unusual looks and smirks. In the end, they ended up throwing 4 slices of pizza in a box. The surprise is ‘they judge you when you arrive and give you want they want to give you’ knowing there was more variety to give and more leftovers (I saw other items on the counter available). My surprise bag was NOT ready as stated it would be either. They threw pizza in a bag just to satisfy the deal. My message to Tony’s Bistro, if you are not going to participate in the Too Good To Go program honestly, fairly, and with pure intentions DO NOT PARTICIPATE – you are not obligated to do so. And what you and your immature staff displayed does not show a real concern or genuine attitude about the food waste (recoup) program. This is a program YOU signed up for…Now play fair! After all, I did pay a small fee – it wasn’t totally free. This was my first order for a surprise bag – how disappointing this experience was! Tony Bisto”s stay true to the mission of the Too Good To Go program….or please unenroll your restaurant. You are exposed now!!!

It was my first time Tony’s Bistro. I have to say the service was great. I ordered a large Stromboli, pepperoni, sausage and extra cheese. The waiter kept warning me are you sure you want a large. I said sure how what a large. Well from the photo you see how big their large are, I ate about a quarter of it. It had to drop the rest off to my adult son because I couldn’t eat anymore. It was incredible I haven’t had a stromboli that tasted that good in years.

I stopped by on an overnight work trip after seeing the great food reviews. Upon my arrival, I was not greeted. I asked the cashier if I should seat my self or wait. She told me to seat myself which I did. The waitress walked by me at least 5 times without greeting me or offering me a drink. After ten mins of sitting without being offered much as a menu, I decided to write this review as I sit. The staff is all Spanish and no Black employees or any other race (non-diverse). As a traveler from Virginia, I have never felt more discriminated against as I watch the server help several guest without speaking to me at all. As a minority, I highly recommend skipping this place if you are looking for good service.
