We got there early and ended up being the first ones in line. Even before the doors opened, you could feel the excitement. As the employees walked in, they were smiling and genuinely happy to be there.
As people started to show up, they had music playing and began doing trivia to get the crowd involved. It kept everyone engaged and made the wait fun. They also had a coffee truck there, which was a great touch and added to the overall experience.
When the doors opened, the store was spotless and organized. You can see the food being made, and you can tell it’s freshly prepared from the base ingredients.
I’ve worked in restaurants before, so I pay attention to operations. Even with what felt like close to 100 people in the building, the ordering process and receiving food was seamless. It ran smoothly and efficiently, especially for an opening event.
Chris, the owner and franchiser of this location, took the time to speak with us personally. He explained how all of the cheese sauces are made in house and shared his insights into the process, along with some of his favorites. He’s a genuine guy who clearly cares about both the food and the people he serves. His opening remarks reflected that as well: humble, fair, and honest.
Hearing from Frank, the original founder and CEO, was also impressive. It stood out to me how grassroots the company still feels and how devoted it is to its core principles.
The mac and cheese itself absolutely delivered. After being assembled, they run it through a broiler so it comes out hot with a perfect finish on top. It’s served at that ideal temperature where it’s hot and fresh but not inedible. It has that restaurant-quality presentation and feel, not just something scooped into a bowl.
The portions were generous, and the pricing was very reasonable. The bowls pictured are $9, which is a lot of good food and very filling for the price.
It was also great seeing Chris’s fiancé there, a Wylie East graduate. Being able to support a young, hardworking couple building something in this community makes it even more meaningful.
Overall, it was an impressive experience from start to finish. We will definitely be back multiple times.

I had my first visit to Roni’s Mac Bar and it was amazing! The mac and cheese was super flavorful and perfectly cooked, with tons of delicious options to choose from. The portions were great and everything tasted fresh and comforting.
