First time checking out Sam’s Tavern, and I’ve got to say—the burger and fries crushed it.

When you first walk in, you’re not really sure what to expect, but the staff is super friendly and the vibe is fun and laid-back.

They’ve also got a pretty cool history. I looked it up and learned that Red Robin actually started as Sam’s Tavern back in the 1940s in Seattle’s college party scene. The owner, Sam, was part of a quartet and loved singing “When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin’ Along.” That inspired him to rename the place Sam’s Red Robin. In 1969, “Sam’s” was dropped, the menu expanded, and those over-the-top burgers started drawing fans from all over. The concept eventually grew into Red Robin restaurants nationwide.

Sam’s Tavern burgers are 10x better than Red Robin’s!

I stopped by to grab some food, but they had stopped serving an hour before closing. So, I decided to stay for a drink instead. The atmosphere was very calm, and it was nice overall. If you’re looking for a place to relax and have a drink, this is a good spot. Just be aware that the drinks are a bit pricey for their size.

Fun bar to grab some grub in Capitol Hill. The cheeseburger was decent, but the wait was really long to the point where I was beginning to wonder if they had somehow missed the order. OK blood Mary too, with a mini slider as a garnish! Decent vibes, the place was busy but not crazy. Just everyone having a good time.

This is the second time I’ve ordered the 1+1 deal with no cheese, and both times my order came with cheese. I made sure to select “no cheese” on both the burgers (and even the fries just to be extra clear), and when I picked up my order I even confirmed with the staff that it was correct. Unfortunately, when I got home, both burgers still had cheese.

I’m sharing this so others can double-check their orders, and in hopes that the team can take a closer look to avoid these mistakes. Would appreciate if someone could reach out to make it right.

Sam’s Tavern in Capitol Hill is easily one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. The bartenders here are always on point. They are friendly, fast, and they really make you feel taken care of. The food never disappoints. Their burgers are some of the best around, the chicken wings are hands down the best wings in town, and their Bloody Marys are not only amazing but also one of the things Sam’s is well known for.

You also can’t beat their $2 Rainer can from 11 am to 6 pm every day. It is rare to find deals like that in Seattle.

If you are looking for a reliable place with great service, amazing food, and a relaxed vibe, Sam’s in Capitol Hill is the place. I highly recommend it.

This is a real dive bar.

I’ve met some exceptional staff here, Gabe, Abby, Adrian, Jason, Sydney.

It’s a special time at Sam’s, at this location, at this bar. Only now. The heart and soul of this neighborhood.

A magic type atmosphere, worth a visit if you’re from out of town and in the heart of Capitol Hill.

Otherwise locally, if you know you know —

The kitchen back of house and food staff make GOOD food. Quite tasty and filling.

Make sure you read the entire review

Staff was excellent. Friendly and helpful. Food was delicious! Atmosphere was funky and fun! So glad to have found this gem!

***EDIT…this has nothing to do with the review already given. The staff remains delightful. The atmosphere remains fun. BUT it has stuck in my craw since we left that night and I’m just now calm enough to write about it. We were a party of TWO. And sure it was New Years Eve. BUT, if they were going to slap us with an automatic gratuity on a PARTY OF TWO, I feel it should have been mentioned. Your receipt clearly states it will be added for parties of SIX or more. Do better. And I tell you what, we were preparing to tip better than the $20 we were charged but after we saw that…….nope. Sorry, ladies. Take it up with your boss.

Food is consistently good and the bacon ranch is delicious. I come here regularly.

Primary downside is that the burger is consistently dry. They dress it up incredibly well, so it’s still very good, but something about the way they store the patties / quality of the ground beef is subpar for a $20 burger + fries.

This bar service basic burgers. I wasn’t a fan of the fries. Athe service was average bar service no thrill no effort. The atmosphere was lame and the conversation at the bar about sexual positioning and other nonsense made it even more dual. There alot of other better places to go in the area.

After being served cold fries and blue cheese at some dump bar. We went here. And the service was unbelievable I don’t know the bartenders name but five stars to that guy.
