I came here today with my friends. It’s been a while since I’ve been to one of the El Zarape locations, but I’ve been to the Park one the most, so decided to come over here. We ordered a chile relleno burrito, a carne asada taco, and a birria taco.

Everything tasted really clean, non-greasy, and fresh. The meats were great, the tortillas were soft and warm, and the beans were perfectly smooth. I really enjoyed the habanero and verde salsas here. They were super flavorful and yummy, though the habanero was a little less spicy than I’d prefer.

This is a cool spot, though perhaps it doesn’t have as many items as the location on Park. Still, it’s solid! They have a couple beers available, plus a soda fountain, too.

Great vegetarian options, including a yummy California burrito with beyond meat. Not a gigantic burrito, but a good value for the price. Tortillas are fresh and delicious, and they have good spicy salsas. They also let me swap the carne asada for beyond meat on the fries – delicious! Everyone that works there is always very nice when we go

Update: as of Feb 2025 they now have creamy poblano chilaquiles on the breakfast menu. It’s so hard to find creamy chilaquiles in San Diego, we were happy to find these

Great place! The lady working the counter was extremely nice, and helped me decide what to get. The dining area is kept very clean, the food was perfect, and it was fairly priced. Definitely coming back.

Neat place to eat brunch. Sat/Sun for $40 you can get bottomless margaritas or mimosas, as well as a selection of food that comes in small plates, but you can keep ordering. Super cool! Good food, good service. You can make reservations but all need to be present to sit down. A little pricey, but good. I had the Birria plate, could have served more for the price.

Have had several California burritos here that have been some of the best I’ve ever had. The salsas are delicious too

First time trying El Zarape picked up to go. Customer service wasn’t as welcoming, they had a bit of attitude and I requested at least 4-5 salsas since I got 3 entrees, but was only given 2. The red salsa containers aren’t even filled up. I was lucky to get 3 drops of hot sauce on my food thanks. Rolled tacos were ok just had guacamole not lettuce like other places. Carne asada fries and California burrito not great. Fries had a weird after taste and burrito portion wasn’t the best. The meat wasn’t seasoned and cut very very thinly so it looked like there was a lot but not really. Overall probably wouldn’t go again.

I wasn’t impressed by the food at all. I came here after a recommendation from a friend raving about the scallop tacos and I was disappointed. Basic, bland tacos with way too much of the white sauce. The only flavor I detected on the scallop taco was from the salsa I added to counter all the white sauce. The mahi mahi was black pepper heavy and bland. Only upset was the decorum was cute. My boyfriend was also disappointed because the scallop tacos apparently used to be good four years ago and now they are meh!

The arrachera tacos are just like the carne asada tacos in TJ. They are sooo good. I’ve eaten so many carne asada tacos in SD and TJ, and these arrachera tacos here are so yummy!!

I was craving Machaca w/egg and I was pretty pleased with my breakfast plate. The beef was juicy and flavorful. I’m pretty picky with rice and beans, but I devoured both of them. The salsa bar had a green one I really liked too. As for my boyfriend’s dish, he was not too pleased with the Grilled Octopus tacos. The octopus should have been slightly charred, but it had more of a slimy consistency.
