This was my first time trying food from this restaurant, and it was a very bad experience. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I ordered Vegetable Jalfrezi, which is supposed to contain bell peppers (capsicum), sliced onions, carrots, green beans, green peas, cauliflower florets, baby corn, and tomatoes.
However, the curry I received looked like it only had zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. It was completely different from what was described on the menu.
This is the worst food experience I have had anywhere in the USA.
Very disappointing and a very bad experience.

Terrible. The naan was burnt. And. No flavor. The chicken saag. Was sad. It taste like straight veggies. No seasoning. At all. The chicken curry. Absolutely disgusting. It taste like. Tomato sauce from a can. With. Cajun seasoning. This food is. So bland. My one year old is eating it. When I called. Them back they did everything but take ownership. For this. Horrible. Food Go to Thor on park instead. We only came here because Thor is closed on Tuesday. Don’t waste your money. I didn’t even get that good curry. Poop after

NEW golden india is legitimately one of the worst Indian spots in Memphis now. Before the ownership/management/name change, my friends and I ate here constantly – it was consistent, delicious, and relatively inexpensive. I could get chicken korma, naan, and an import beer for like $25 after tip. The service was always great and the atmosphere was quiet but comfortable. However, I went a few days ago with some friends and we all shared butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, and chicken korma. I paid for the butter chicken, an order of naan, and a Taj Mahal beer. After tip it was $42. All of the food was mediocre at best, the garlic naan was just a thin, slightly warm piece of naan with raw jarred garlic dumped on it. The butter chicken tasted like tomato soup. There was no music in the restaurant, the service was fine but slow, and we were made fun of for ordering butter chicken. (I understand it’s a basic, Americanized dish – it tastes good though so sometimes people are going to order it if it’s on the menu.) It makes me so sad to see the best Indian spot in the city fall so far down because of a management change. It’s almost double the price and less than half the quality.

Been to quite a few Indian spots at this point and this is hands down the best one in Memphis! Would highly recommend giving the chicken 65 a try it’s like a perfect mix of crispy and juicy. Also had the chicken saag with onion kulcha and everything was very flavorful. Bobby took good care of my family and service was speedy.

New ownership and it’s called “New Golden India” now. I enjoyed it and liked my chicken butter curry. I think the Naan bread could improve. The waitress was very nice. They did add a tv that plays Indian music videos which was a bit distracting at times but overall it was a good experience.
Update* Wonderful Customer Service and response!

Loved the Fish Curry with basmati rice and the Assorted Snacks from the appetizer menu (two samosas with onion baji, veg pakoras and two chutneys that could have been a meal by itself). Need to bring my own compostable to go box next time!

Wow haven’t been here in a while and almost didn’t recognize the place. Completely renovated with new booths and flooring…felt like I was stepping into a brand new restaurant. Prices were a bit higher but also the quality has really improved so felt worth it. I got samosa, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan and everything was really delicious!

I loved the samosas and we got tandoori chicken that was sizzling when it arrived. We also got the garlic Naan and lamb. Nice atmosphere and good food! They give you heat spice options, mild, medium or spicy.

Not true to Indian traditional food. Odered several dishes. They advertise chicken wings online but not on menu in restaurant. The sevice was so so so slooooooooooow I could knit a scarf. The bottom he seated me was nasty with food crumbs on the table and seat. He wipped the table with his hand, also the seats. The food is bland. I ordered chickpea salad, lamb curry and chicken dish. Chickpea salad was good however the other dishes were not tasty. Taste thrown together. I’ve had better street food.

Golden India used to be my partner’s and my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Memphis. Since moving here, we’ve eaten there at least once a month, sometimes every other month, and it was always something we looked forward to. I always ordered the Paneer Tikka (spicy), and my partner got the Chicken Vindaloo (also spicy). We’d share an order of garlic naan, which was hands down the best naan I’ve ever had – fluffy, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned.
The Paneer Tikka was always spot on – rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. My partner’s Chicken Vindaloo was consistently excellent as well, with deep, balanced seasoning. Everything about it used to feel like comfort food done right.
Unfortunately, our most recent order was a complete letdown. The paneer tasted like canned tomatoes thinned out with water, no seasoning at all. I actually had to add my own spices and pour raita over it just to make it edible, and even then, I couldn’t finish it. The garlic naan, which used to be incredible, was barely the size of two hands, thin, flavorless, and I couldn’t even see any garlic. For $5.50, it was shocking. My partner’s Chicken Vindaloo was just as disappointing. It tasted like someone tried to make a roux and ended up with watery flour instead of a flavorful sauce.
We’re genuinely sad to say we won’t be back. Golden India used to be our go-to for a special treat, but after this experience, it feels like everything we loved about it is gone. Hopefully the new management will consider making some changes.
