For instance this evening, prior to ordering I called in to clarify if it was halibut or haddock, and I asked the cost of the halibut and chips.
The picture of the menu clearly stated Halibut, and I just expected that the price increased. When I called, I specifically requested the price of HALIBUT and chips, which I was told was 19.99. Fair enough…
There is no menu online to properly view, the website basically you click on the menu and it takes you to a bunch of advertisements and doesn’t show the menu, so you find the pictures under “menu” on Google and that’s about as close as you can get to finding anyhting, which adds to the feeling misled factor.
So I order the beef dip with Caesar salad, and the HALIBUT & chips.
I got haddock, and I called back after and said I’m certain this isn’t halibut and a new lady told me they don’t even sell it.
Now, for the most part I’ve had decent experience here however 3 years ago, the last time I went before trying it again, I had a different negative experience which I didn’t leave a review about.
So number 1 I was mislead, whether the staff was unaware or not, we wanted halibut today. We wouldn’t have even went to Dornoch if it wasn’t forthe last exclaiming the it was halibut.
Also, the beef dip au jus is good, Caesar salad is tasty but the Caesar salad is very small portion, the beef dip is an excellent portion size but it’s like, covered in margarine or something.
Anyway, they make their flood fresh, the fries are good… Don’t feel very good about the fact we got food we didn’t expect, needless to say if you want fish & chips or a beef dip, deifnitely much better places in town.
It cost me $60 for 2 meals takeout which is fine but when it’s not what you think you’re purchasing, not the best experience and doesn’t really make me want to return at all, especially with all the phenomenonal dining available in this area .
Id give it less, but they do cook everything fresh and are polite.
Edit: Sorry, after further getting into my beef dip, it’s so drenched in mayo I can’t even eat it after scraping it all off.
I feel bad for leaving this review but I would hate for this to happen to me again, so I really want people to know. The picture you’re gonna see off the scraped mayo is off half of a half that I was actually more than halfway through and there’s still tons.
As a local, it’s hard for me to even leave this review but frankly, I just feel really played. The fact I just spent $60 to only eat fries and salad is just crazy
The rest, I just can’t eat it. My lady and I don’t eat haddock and we choose Halibut for a reason and the abundance of mayo is just too much on the beef dip
Fries are good, slaw is good, sauces are good etc. But it feels like paying $60 for a salad and fries and a gravy.
Edited review 5 years later (2024). We had an amazing lunch today. Fantastic flavours and good portions for price for appetizers and main courses. Coconut shrimp stood out, as did the hot olive tapas. Fish tacos (2) were very tasty. Great menu, friendly staff.
