Love this place ! Me and my employees went her for lunch and didn’t regret getting the meatloaf! Southern foods are my comfort food ! Place was full when we arrived but we we sat promptly! Service was very professional and once our plate was served service continued. This is a local Veteran owned Buisness we love supporting our Veterans here in Corpus Christi. And the let me tell you the southern fried chicken was on point ! Just like mom used to make ! And the corn bread was I could eat that all by itself. Parking is limited so get there a little early for lunch ! But this is a great place for comfort food!!! Oh and bathroom as well all know are important we’re very clean and had a pleasant aroma!!! Super important!!!! So welcome and enjoy !

I ordered the fried chicken, asked for white meat. The chicken breast was nice because it was fired without bones, but it was over cooked. A little bit dry. The flavor and crust was D-lish! Also, not my thing was that the Mac N cheese was sweet. Some might like it, but I didn’t. I would like to try it again during the Jazz brunch.

The service and atmosphere is so wonderful here. It makes you feel like family! The host is super friendly. She gives you a warm welcome and checks up on you as much as your server does. I tried the fried tomato’s with house sauce. It was a very delicious starter. Plus the tomatoes are a bit of a thicker cut so you get a good taste of the tomatoes not just the fried batter. I decided to try a few things because country soul food is always my #1 pick! Today I ordered the beef tips over rice with collard greens and yams. I also decided to try the fried chicken with Mac and cheese! EVERYTHING WAS GOOD! The beef was tender, collard greens was nice and light, cornbread was soft with a hint of sweetness, chicken had the best fry on it that I’ve ever had, yams were sweet and delicious, and Mac and cheese had a little cheese pull on it and I was loving it all! I also got the peach cobbler to go. It was so good! Had an amazing flaky crust on it! I really recommend it!

I ordered through DoorDash and the food came hot which is wonderful! But when I came in to eat months ago the food was flavorful, cornbread was thick/ fluffy almost cake like, the chicken was well seasoned! But today I got fried chicken leg, ordered fried fish (but it was out of stock, cornbread, and yams. The cornbread was then and dry, the chicken had a beautiful crust on it but no seasoning!!! The yams saved it a little bit. When I first came to this restaurant I fell in love, but now idk if there’s someone new cooking… I might retry it again at some point but I was very disappointed ☹️

Great place. I wasn’t aware of the few options daily but that was fine I still found something I loved. The homemade thousand island was amazing. The strawberry lemonade, they could have given me a gallon and I would have drank it all.

I had an incredible dinner here! The corn bread, collard greens, and mash potatoes were delicious, but the pork chops stole the show – absolutely divine!

The service was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with jazz music filling the air every Friday.

Can’t wait to come back!

I’m sure the food is delicious every day of the week but if you were not there on March 19, 2024 you truly missed out! There was not a crumb left behind! I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and black eyed peas! Cornbread too which was also amazing. The fried chicken looked so good I put the honey and butter on it instead of the cornbread 10/10!! Everything was a 10/10! From the music to the staff. It was me and my best friends first time visiting corpus and we DEFINITELY will be back! Hands down best southern food restaurant I’ve been to. Amber was AMAZING! We even had to let the chef know that he didn’t miss a beat in the kitchen! ❤️❤️ Oh and I had the sock it to me cake for dessert DELICIOUS!!

What a gem! Beautiful little spot tucked away close to the waterfront. Parking is a bit tricky but what isnt downtown? Beautiful ambience and jazz music playing overhead. Cozy tables set with black linens and flowers on every table. The food was delicious and tasty. The owner greeted us and checked on us often. The staff was amazing. Saw this place featured on “Texas Bucket List” on YT.

My wife and I visited Portis country kitchen on Valentine’s Day for lunch. I guess the best compliment I can give them is that if I didn’t know no better I would’ve thought my mom was in the kitchen cooking but I know that’s not possible since my mom passed away in 2009. I haven’t enjoyed a Soulfood meal like that since then I’m a pretty good cook myself but it’s nothing like having somebody cook for you. Sit down and being able to enjoy a meal I wish I could visit their house for Thanksgiving boy I bet you it’s sooooooooo good. The collard greens were absolutely amazing. Season to perfection the yams were absolutely delicious and the fried chicken hey man say man it is what it is. I also noticed some of the other dishes coming out like the smothered pork chops the baked chicken the fried okra. My wife had was Amazing. I highly recommend for this country kitchen support black owned. He’s a military veteran as a very clean restaurant great staff great customer service everyone’s friendly and tentative so I highly recommend if you’re in the Corpus Christi area and you’re looking for a great place to eat stop in and visit Portis country kitchen. I promise you won’t be disappointed
