HONOS Shrimp Truck: Savor the Best Garlic and Spicy Shrimp on …
Hono’s Shrimp Truck, Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712, US
Reviews
LA Galbi is outstanding.
Tender, well-marinated, full of deep, savory flavor — easily one of the best LA galbi plates I’ve had, and definitely unexpected from a food truck. It’s rich without being overpowering and pairs perfectly with rice.
Pro tip:
Get LA Galbi from Hono’s and Scampi Shrimp from Giovanni’s and share both. The combo is unbeatable — garlic-forward shrimp on one side, smoky, sweet-savory galbi on the other.
The young woman working the window at Honos Shrimp Truck was shockingly rude. She was dismissive, impatient, and acted like customers were an inconvenience rather than the reason the truck exists in the first place. There was no friendliness, no courtesy—just a cold, irritated attitude that made the interaction uncomfortable from the moment we walked up.
What makes this even more frustrating is that we were genuinely trying to support them. We visited twice and purchased food both times because we wanted to try different trucks and compare them. Instead of being treated like paying customers, we were made to feel like we had done something wrong simply by choosing to try more than one place. That kind of attitude toward people who are literally spending money at your window is baffling.
It’s also not hard to see why there was no line at all while other trucks nearby were busy. When the first interaction someone has with your business is rude and dismissive, word spreads quickly. In a place like the North Shore where there are plenty of options, people will simply walk a few steps down the road to somewhere that actually appreciates their business.
In complete contrast, Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck was the exact opposite experience. The staff there were friendly, welcoming, and clearly used to the crowds that come through. They treated customers with respect, moved people through quickly, and made the whole experience enjoyable. That’s the kind of service that earns the long lines they consistently have.
The bottom line: while the kalbi itself was good, the attitude at Honos completely ruined the experience. There are simply too many great options nearby to deal with rude service. Skip Honos and go straight to Giovanni’s. The food is great, the people are friendly, and you’ll actually feel welcome there.
Also 5 shrimp for an extra $3, amazing!
Anyways!!
We got there on a Monday around 2 pm. Place was pretty busy, but no line for Hono’s. We ordered and got the food within 10 minutes.
The garlic shrimp was tasty and well sized and the galbi was so flavorful! We gobbled it up lol. You can opt to make a combo with garlic shrimp and galbi but we got two separate entrees since we pulled the cash almost exactly for it haha.
Would definitely come back again!
