One of the best food truck experiences in Haleiwa

LA Galbi is outstanding.
Tender, well-marinated, full of deep, savory flavor — easily one of the best LA galbi plates I’ve had, and definitely unexpected from a food truck. It’s rich without being overpowering and pairs perfectly with rice.

Pro tip:
Get LA Galbi from Hono’s and Scampi Shrimp from Giovanni’s and share both. The combo is unbeatable — garlic-forward shrimp on one side, smoky, sweet-savory galbi on the other.

The combo shrimp and galbi platter was delicious! The shrimps were big in size, we got them with the spicy butter sauce. Highly recommend this truck if you stop by this spot!

the shrimp was fabulous – large shrimp, the flavor was on point and it came with some delicious rice and cabbage salad. We also ordered Giovanni’s to do a comparison and I would chose Honos over and over again. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed

Honos shrimp provides great plump shrimp but lacking in flavor in multiple aspects. The garlic had no flavor and was just there for texture. The shrimp although very plump and cleaned well had very little shrimp taste even with garlic on it. Maybe some salt or lemon could’ve revived it but lacked any garlic and shrimp flavors.

The kalbi was excellent—no complaints there at all. It was flavorful, well cooked, and honestly one of the better plates we tried while visiting the shrimp trucks. Unfortunately, the food was the only positive part of the experience.

The young woman working the window at Honos Shrimp Truck was shockingly rude. She was dismissive, impatient, and acted like customers were an inconvenience rather than the reason the truck exists in the first place. There was no friendliness, no courtesy—just a cold, irritated attitude that made the interaction uncomfortable from the moment we walked up.

What makes this even more frustrating is that we were genuinely trying to support them. We visited twice and purchased food both times because we wanted to try different trucks and compare them. Instead of being treated like paying customers, we were made to feel like we had done something wrong simply by choosing to try more than one place. That kind of attitude toward people who are literally spending money at your window is baffling.

It’s also not hard to see why there was no line at all while other trucks nearby were busy. When the first interaction someone has with your business is rude and dismissive, word spreads quickly. In a place like the North Shore where there are plenty of options, people will simply walk a few steps down the road to somewhere that actually appreciates their business.

In complete contrast, Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck was the exact opposite experience. The staff there were friendly, welcoming, and clearly used to the crowds that come through. They treated customers with respect, moved people through quickly, and made the whole experience enjoyable. That’s the kind of service that earns the long lines they consistently have.

The bottom line: while the kalbi itself was good, the attitude at Honos completely ruined the experience. There are simply too many great options nearby to deal with rude service. Skip Honos and go straight to Giovanni’s. The food is great, the people are friendly, and you’ll actually feel welcome there.

If you are curious about my review of the Giovanni’s shrimp truck, just look up my review, their truck is literally next to it. Been to Giovanni’s like a couple of days before I visited this truck and been to Giovanni’s truck. Some may say the it’s more pricey than the Giovanni’s, however, I noticed the quality is definitely different and it’s more tasty. The shrimp here is definitely more fresh and plumper and coming from an Asian person, the rice is so much better here and not overcooked and the food here is not too oily. We got the spicy and the non-spicy, but if you aren’t so good with the spicy, I recommend getting the regular/original butter garlic. Also they cut the shrimp the way it’s easier for you to peel the skin off.

Great food and service! If you’re looking to try a shrimp truck with more unique flavors, try their spicy (gochujang) garlic shrimp! I’ve been a few times and they never disappoint—portions are generous and flavorful. The #8 combo (shrimp + Kalbi) is my go-to. Heads up: it’s cash only, and the seating is reserved for Honos customers so you should be able to find a nice spot near the truck. Also, BTS has eaten here too! 🙂

Hono’s Food Truck is a must try if you’re in the area. We had the garlic shrimp and the kalbi, both were incredibly flavorful and came in generous portions. Every bite was packed with taste, and it was absolutely worth it!

So originally i came to this area for another food truck. I ended up getting plates from both trucks, hands down .. honos is way better. The portions are better, the taste is amazing and the customer service is 100% there. They are cash only so come prepared, but the prices are better and the food is mouth watering!
Also 5 shrimp for an extra $3, amazing!

This is a food truck park with $2 cash parking. most food trucks are CASH ONLY, including Hono’s. Wish I saw that earlier! There is an ATM nearby, thought but the charge is $5.75 to withdraw… yikes.

Anyways!!

We got there on a Monday around 2 pm. Place was pretty busy, but no line for Hono’s. We ordered and got the food within 10 minutes.

The garlic shrimp was tasty and well sized and the galbi was so flavorful! We gobbled it up lol. You can opt to make a combo with garlic shrimp and galbi but we got two separate entrees since we pulled the cash almost exactly for it haha.

Would definitely come back again!
