Mei’s Chinese Restaurant – Visit SLO CAL

Mei’s has been serving fine food in a relaxed family atmosphere since 1994. We are pleasantly situated in beautiful Shell Beach on the Central Coast.

We couldn’t wait until we got home. Saw it was crowded. Decided to stop.
Food was excellent.
Eggplant. The best the wife and I have ever had.
Will definitely be back.

Great fried rice and chow mein. Had the garlic beef also. Nice place, and good food!

My wife and I had food from here a few weeks ago when we were getting our car serviced at Sunset Honda. It was very good.
The other night we decided to try it.
It’s sort of a hole-in-the wall looking place that we like to go to.
The initial service was great.
We had questions and they were answered promptly.
We ordered the “A” and “B” dinners with the idea of sharing.
We didn’t wait long. The food came out nice and hot.
There problem was that we really wanted to like it but it just didn’t seem to have the flavors we had expected.
It seemed like everything on both plates just tasted the same.
We ended up bringing some home with us.
We offered it to our fifteen year old who generally inhales everything he eats. Even he didn’t finish it.
Maybe it was an off night. I don’t know.
I generally judge restaurants by how soon I’m looking forward to going back. This one, unfortunately, I’m not.
I know they’ve been around for a while and they’ve got lots of good reviews. I just felt like I wished I had gone to Panda Express instead.
I don’t know, maybe we’ll give it another try sometime.
It seems to be a pretty popular place.

Ordered takeout. Sweet & Sour Chicken. All batter, little meat and no vegetables, no pineapple. Our appetizers, shrimp and pork were put in the same bag, so the shrimp totally contaminated the pork. Terrible. Overpriced. We will not be back.

We have a difficult time finding good Indian, Thai, Chinese and other global food in the SLO area. But we have discovered Mei’s as of Christmas (and apparently so did many others – with a 1.5 hr wait for takeaway, which we took as a good sign of good food!!) I had the Veggie/Tofu Szechuan style and it didn’t disappoint. Having had access to excellent Asian dishes in the Bay area for years, it’s so great to finally find good food here now. Thanks, Mei’s!!

We discovered this place during a weekend trip to pismo beach from the Bay Area. Fast forward a few months and we had to stop here again on our way to Santa Barbara just because of that memory of great food we had here. The food is so exceptional – you can just tell that it’s high quality ingredients made in the most authentic way possible. My only concern is that this is now this is one of our all time favorite restaurants but we live in Bay Area

Over the years I have tried Mei’s multiple times. With memory fading over the years I d Decided to circle back and give this local Chinese spot another try. Ordered a few classics—chicken with snow peas and Pad See Ew with beef—to test the basics.

The dishes were decent and freshly made, but I was surprised (and a little disappointed) to find that rice is now a surcharge. For the price point, it really should be included—especially when it’s practically the co-star of any good Chinese meal.

Seems to be a growing trend in the Shell and Pismo Beach area—tourist pricing creeping into local expectations. The food itself? Pretty standard, nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either.

A decent stop if you’re nearby and craving something quick, but not quite the culinary quest this hungry traveler hoped for.

Food was excellent. Service was fast and attentive though not overly appreciative. Atmosphere lacks, but Im ok with it knowing I’m getting good food.
