Really wanted to like this place. Wanted to visit last year and never got there but this year we did. Unfortunately it wasnt a very good experience. Server was sweet but kitchen was slow. Ordered the hushpuppies, they were undercooked inside and over cooked outside. We each ate just one.
I ordered the fish of the day, blackened. It was flounder. It was cooked perfectly but flounder isnt exactly at the top of my list for choices. It was served on a bed of rice that was cooked perfectly. The sides i chose were onion rings and green beans. Weird? Probably but i want a veg and i love onion rings. Green beans were canned with a crazy amount of jarlic (not a typo, jarred garlic is gross) onion rings were frozen sysco trash.
We both spent the following day regretting our decisions in the bathroom. Not sure what the issues are there but if I had to guess id say they arent following basic cleaning routines. (My wine glass had lipstick on it)
Sorry guys, you need to try.

A little bit off the beaten path, it’s our go-to when we want a nice quiet seafood meal. Very scenic location along the bay, you can usually catch a glimpse of the ponies across the water. They also have a nice small outside bar, nice for some after dinner drinks. I like to go around sunset, even though you don’t get a direct sunset view, the sky color reflects nicely on the water. Food is always good and fresh here.

We visited last June, and I have been meaning to review for our amazing experience. The restaurant was busy when we were there for dinner and they were out of a few menu items, but it didn’t affect us in the least. I ordered rockfish, which I still think about months later. It was huge and perfectly cooked! But what really made our day was their handling of our child’s food allergies (peanut and dairy). Typically at restaurants, we are told there are no modifications and we are stuck with something not so exciting or desired by a toddler. But our waitress communicated the allergens to the chef, who modified the way the chicken fingers were cooked. Our daughter loved our meal! When she received green beans that clearly had something on top, our waitress on her own assured us that it was olive oil and not butter. We felt very safe in this restaurant and are incredibly appreciative to the attention to her allergies and willingness to modify for her. We can’t wait to come back this summer!

The food at the Pearl is very good however that is totally overshadowed by the lack of service at this restaurant. It should be noted also that the menu is very very limited on the off-season It took us over 15 or 20 minutes, just to get a drink. It was extremely loud inside. Our waitress even though very friendly never offered us silverware. Every time we need something we needed to find her and flag her down and that often took forever as well. And when we got our crabcakes, there was no offer of cocktail sauce or tartar sauce or anything. The restaurant was not that crowded so that such slow service was totally unacceptable. Going back to the food. The crabcakes were delicious. The crab balls were great and I had the mahi which was also very good. The drinks were very mediocre, and as I said, they took forever to come to us. If you’re looking for a nice meal and a quiet setting the Pearl is not the place to go.

Beautiful location, the server gave us binoculars to spy the ponies across the water and light house. We went for lunch and yes it was one person and she was wonderful, attentive and did extra things such as offering our drink refills to go. Extensive menu. One of the best hush puppies I’ve had – they are huge, too. Fried green tomatoes were tasty. The view is amazing. Will be back.

SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! We came to this restaurant with high hopes, enchanted by its scenic views and the promise of fresh oysters. Located in Chincoteague, a destination renowned for its seafood, our expectations were particularly elevated. Unfortunately, our experience quickly turned sour as we found ourselves grappling with a disappointing culinary journey.

Upon arriving, we learned that the restaurant offered separate lunch and dinner menus—an oversight that certainly wasn’t the root of our issues. I saw that the lunch menu boasted fried oysters, but given our fondness for fresh oysters on the half shell, I inquired whether they could accommodate our request for a dozen. The answer was a definitive “no.” Resigned, I opted for the fried oysters instead, only to be met with yet another letdown when our waitress informed us they were out of stock for the day. On a Saturday, no less! In a place known for its oysters, this was baffling.

As we teetered on the edge of leaving, we ultimately decided to give the restaurant a chance. What ensued was a meal rife with disappointment. Between the four of us, we tried the crab cake platter, broiled scallops, a burger, and rockfish, hoping to find at least one redeeming dish. Sadly, the crab cake was overstuffed with filler, leaving us frustrated with its lack of flavor. The six scallops, which we had expected to be tender and succulent, were overcooked and disappointingly small. The rockfish, too, suffered from a similar fate—dry and lacking any personality or seasoning.

Even my mom, celebrating her birthday that day, shrugged off her burger with a nonchalant “meh, it’s okay,” as if that was the best compliment we could muster. The fries accompanying our meals left much to be desired as well: soggy and bland, they seemed reminiscent of something you’d find in an uninspired cafeteria rather than a restaurant with potential.

It pains me to write such a negative review, especially when the ambiance of the restaurant was genuinely beautiful. The interior design was inviting, and the location breathtaking. Our waitress, who was friendly and attentive, bore the brunt of our frustrations and apologized profusely on behalf of the management and kitchen staff, which only made our disappointment more palpable. She undoubtedly deserves commendation for her efforts amidst the chaos.

In summary, while the scenic views and lovely atmosphere could have made for a fantastic dining experience, the food fell woefully short. Management needs to reevaluate not just their suppliers for fresh oysters but also the skills within their kitchen. As one of the hottest destinations for seafood, it’s vital to keep the menu offerings aligned with customer expectations. As for our visit, we left feeling unfulfilled—and wondering what might have been if only the food matched the stunning surroundings.

I regret to say that I have to give this restaurant two stars: one for the ambiance and another for our wonderful waitress. Here’s hoping they can address their culinary shortcomings soon; the potential is there, but it remains frustratingly untapped.

I am a person with Celiac disease and a regular visitor to Chincoteague. The Pearl is a regular stop for me every time since I know I’ll be able to reliably get a good meal that’s gluten safe (even in the off season when several of the other restaurants are closed). My server, Amanda, was very knowledgeable about gluten safety and helped me navigate the menu, and advised on what could be changed or substituted in addition to the items marked gluten free on the menu. I regularly get the oysters on the half and the fish of the day. Prices are very reasonable. Service is wonderful.

Came here for drinks on Sat night, and it was the RIGHT call. This seems like where the locals go, as it’s off the main drag. Lovely, lively crowd. DJ started about 9p, and the late night crowd rolled in not long after. Ruby, the bartender, did an EXCEPTIONAL job, especially considering it was her first night behind that bar, and she was on her own. She was juggling a lot but kept cool & composed. Our drinks were delicious. The atmosphere was just a really fun, local place. Would recommend!!

Plastic cups for margarita’s and beer, first two choices of beer were out of stock. Cheap black napkins, crab cakes not tasty at all. Green beans, day old or overcooked and dry. Server not helpful at all. Not even offered dessert. Five star prices at a three star restaurant. Will not be back. Beautiful bay front is all they offer.

Stopped in here while traveling through the area for work. It was the off season so they weren’t very busy and there were a lot of local folks hanging out. Everyone was extremely friendly, both the staff and local patrons. I ordered the NY strip and it was cooked perfectly. They even threw in a side order of mashed potatoes at no charge in addition to my original order because they had extra fresh ones made!

Overall a great local spot to check out if you are in the area!
