We came in and ordered the paneer pakora and paneer samosa. They were out of paneer samosas so we switched to vegetable samosa, and both arrived promptly and were hot and delicious. They were also beautifully presented. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. We waited 55 minutes for our 3 curries, naan bread and rice, and watched as people who came in and were seated after us got their food before us. The server, while very sweet, largely ignored our table and we had to flag her down to tell her if it was going to be much longer we’d be leaving. When it arrived, we got our curries with no rice and had to flag down our server to get the rice to eat with it.
-The vindaloo was ok (but pretty bland by vindaloo standards)
-The dal makhani was awful; bland and somewhat sour, not rich and full of spice like the dozens of dals I’ve eaten.
-The Malai Kofta (their *house special*) was flavorless and the kofta were hard to the point of being inedible – I actually had to struggle to cut it open.
-The naan was terrible; dry and flat (other reviewers have commented on it) and not at all fluffy and pillowy like naan should be. This wasn’t an “alternate style” – it was just bad.
-The peshwari naan was supposed to be “stuffed full of coconut and raisins” had a scant sprinkling of coconut and maybe 3 measly raisins in the whole thing
-The saffron rice was bland and flavorless as well. You can see in the pictures how half of the rice isn’t even seasoned with anything.
I mentioned to our server how disappointed she was with the food and she said “Sorry” but didn’t offer to remake or comp a single thing.
I’m so sad to have experienced such sub-par food. The quality of the ingredients was actually quite high, but the execution showed a complete lack of care for seasoning or how it’s made. I’m also disappointed to see an establishment which watches patrons walk out having left more than half their food behind after telling them it was terrible and not taking any of it off the bill. It took them almost half an hour to bring the bill and we had to again flag the server. I was SO excited to try the food here after reading several rave reviews, but our experience had me wondering if I went to the wrong place. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.
EDIT: My husband has had severe diarrhea all day today, probably from the lamb vindaloo which I didn’t touch. Other reviewers commented on the questionable hygiene, I guess this is why.
The food was excellent. The Korma was delightful and their naan was different from other Indian places I have been to but I really, really enjoyed their variation. The dessert was a whipped mango with pistachios and I loved it. The mango chutney served with the pompadom was the best I have ever had.
The service was very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal!
The lunch set was for $15 for vegetarians and $18 for meat. Here are the photos of the lunch set we enjoyed!!
I recommend this establishment.
