Flea Street

  4.5 – 452 reviews   • New American restaurant

Flea Street has been a Silicon Valley favorite since 1980. The atmosphere is contemporary, sophisticated and inviting. The menu is a celebration of the rich Northern California food community: seafood is caught in the nearby Pacific, produce is carefully sourced from local farms, meat is grass-fed or pasture-raised to name just a few. Flea Street offers innovative yet approachable cuisine that showcases the very best of the season. Our bar specializes in martinis and unique cocktails using small batch liquors. A wine list features the best of California’s extraordinary vineyards with an emphasis on the local appellation–the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Upscale mainstay for Californian-New American fare focusing on sustainable ingredients.

Upscale Californian cuisine, served in a nicely decorated, understated venue. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented, and the cocktails were delicious. However, the service was a bit inconsistent, as it took forever to get the cocktails, and the server would disappear for long periods of time. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant, but it tends to fill up quickly. Also some free street parking available.

We had a lovely, first time dinner at Flea Street. The kitchen accommodated my gluten free allergy. For starters we ordered the smoked trout and a fall salad, but delicious, but the trout was easily a better choice. For entrees I had the risotto with mushrooms, this dish was incredible, creamy, warm and the variety of mushrooms made the plate more enjoyable. My husband had the gnocchi with sausage and he was extremely satisfied with the flavors. To end we had the tcho chocolate cake which was divine and gf! Overall highly recommend!

Excellent Californian cuisine with an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients. The staff is well-trained, pleasant and professional – they will pamper you from the amuse-bouche to dessert. The vibe is welcoming and homey (the owner will come to your table and say hello) but also refined with elegant patrons. Outdoor seating is also available. Perfect for a date or a small group of friends.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Flea Street in Menlo Park, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the thoughtfully curated dishes to the warm ambiance, Flea Street delivered on all fronts, showcasing the best of California’s farm-to-table dining.

We started with a selection of small bites, beautifully presented on a wooden board. The whipped butter, arranged in delicate rosettes, was almost too pretty to eat, while the house-made bread and savory bites set a delightful tone for the meal.

The next dish was a crispy arancini served atop a creamy sauce, garnished with pomegranate seeds that added a pop of color and a hint of sweetness to balance the savory flavors. Each bite was rich and comforting, with a perfect contrast of textures.

Another highlight was a beautifully plated poached egg over a flaky pastry, a simple yet satisfying dish that emphasized fresh ingredients and skillful execution. The egg was cooked to perfection, adding a silky richness to the flaky base.

For the mains, we enjoyed a seared fish fillet atop a bed of orzo and fresh vegetables. The fish was cooked just right, with a crispy herb crust that added an aromatic layer to the dish. The balance of flavors and the quality of ingredients were evident in every bite.

The braised beef with roasted carrots was another standout, tender and flavorful, with a rich sauce that complemented the sweetness of the carrots. It was a comforting, hearty dish that felt both rustic and refined.

We also ordered two drinks: the Modern Old Fashion (yes, it sounds funny—Modern yet Old!) and a Dirty Martini. The Modern Old Fashion was fantastic and clearly a specialty of the restaurant, with a perfect blend of flavors that elevated the classic cocktail. However, on the downside, the Dirty Martini was quite disappointing. Not only was the flavor way off, but they also served it with unpitted olives, which felt like an odd choice for a cocktail. While the olives weren’t the issue, we ended up returning the drink due to its overall taste.

Finally, we ended with a dessert that brought the meal to a satisfying close—a creamy, textured dish topped with crunchy chocolate bits, providing a lovely mix of flavors and textures.

Overall, Flea Street offers a wonderful dining experience with a focus on sustainability and local ingredients. Each dish felt thoughtful and well-executed, and the service was attentive and friendly. While the Dirty Martini fell short, the Modern Old Fashion and the exceptional food more than made up for it. It’s a perfect spot for those looking to enjoy innovative, seasonal cuisine in a cozy and elegant setting. Highly recommend!

I can’t say enough about the superb service and quality of the food.
What a beautiful atmosphere.
The melt-in-your-mouth smoked trout with tzatziki sauce was out of this world!
The star of the night was the pork chop served over a delicate and delicious bed of risotto.
The rock fish with saffron sauce was to die for.
The drinks were amazing and had a beautiful presentation. Service was exceptional as ever.
Our servers, Angel, José, Alonso, Cristy, Julio and Eloy were very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The owner, Jesse came by our table and was genuinely interested in our comfort and well being. The desserts were also delicious!
10 out of 10 recommend!

Really liked some of the food (lamb, cioppino, biscuits) but the salmon was quite average. Drinks are tasty but expensive ($22-$25). Kinda disappointing that non-alcoholic cocktails are also $15, which seems a bit outrageous for ginger ale and soda water. Service was friendly but a bit slow.

I have been going to Flea Street for over a decade and it always delivers — whether for a business dinner or a birthday celebration. They greeted me on my birthday last month with custom menus with my name printed at the top. Such a nice touch. I especially love their cocktails, home-made bread, ice cream, and delicious and creative entrees. Their service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere, warm and classy. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely dinner here for a special occasion. The staff was kind and attentive, and the owner greeted us warmly. The coctails were wonderful and inventive, with seasonally inspired ingredients. Many of their ingredients come fresh from their own garden. I had an excellent time here and highly recommend this place.
