This place has a real claim to be the oldest restaurant in Montana. What a cool experience!! Lovingly operated by a warm, friendly family who are invested in preserving the local Nevada City history. Eating here, you are next door to the Ghost Town and can easily walk about the historic town. Food was great! Especially loved the fried green tomatoes! Be sure to chat with the staff about the local history. A memorable experience and a must-stop on The Vigilante Trail.

My friend and I are history buffs, and we were really looking forward to going to the ACTUAL oldest restaurant in Montana (don’t believe what you read anywhere else- this was established around 1863). We were mainly there for the history, but were pleasantly surprised by the great food and friendly service. We had the bite size fried green tomatoes, Caesar salad, and ham and cheese sandwich- they were all great. (Forgot to take pics because we were starved and excited). Classic American food done well. We spoke with the owners and a few locals who were eating there about the history of the restaurant and the town- so cool you can still go there and have a great meal too. Definitely make this one of your foods stops coming through town. It’s located right next to the Nevada city museum- highly recommend eating lunch here and then walking a couple doors down to the museum/music hall/village. Can’t wait to come back here in the future

What can I say? This is the best breakfast spot between Virginia and Nevada City. I’m with the Virginia City Players and I hit this spot just about every day before rehearsal. The whole menu is good and the price is very reasonable. Jamie is a great chef, and recently started doing strawberry banana French toast which is wonderful. Rachel is such an awesome waitress: very attentive, sweet, and quick no matter how busy the ‘Star’ is!

We had the best Burgers..Ranch and Bison. The beer battered onion rings were an absolute delight and the Cinnamon rolls were to die for. After we paid, the owner came out with a generous piece of homemade coffee cake and shared the recipe with us. This is better than 5 star.

Ordered lunch salad with steak, June 2025. The lettuce was old and inedible. They gave me half off of my tab, which seemed fair, but there’s no excuse for serving dead lettuce. Disappointing.

Halibut fish and chips was on the menu, hubby asked for a fish sandwich.No problem. The fillet was large and delicious. The staff were up beat and efficient. The historic setting was athentic and cute. We do like vegetarian options which were in short supply. That being said, the side salad we ordered was large, fresh, and loaded. with tomatoes, cukes, and peppers. Very nice!

This was some experience. Not only we got super delicious American breakfast and blueberry muffins for desert, we also learned from Jamie – the owner – a lot about local history.
