Reviews
The lemon soup was my family’s favorite and the saganaki cheese was so delicious.
The restaurant owner even gave us a dessert to accommodate for my nut allergy and was so kind! I will definitely be coming back soon! I recommend this restaurant for families!
There was one couple that left as we came in and one person doing take out and one more couple that came in when we were halfway through. Pretty slow for a Tue night.
We all ordered different dishes. The roast leg of lamb was basically meat pulled off some cut, probably leg but was expecting a single piece of lamb, not small pieces. Was just ok. Gyro looked good. Vegetarian moussaka was decent. Lamb shank again was just OK. The lentils soups that came with the dinner was the best tasting of all the items.
Unlikely to go back.
We started with a few appetizers- Houmos, Melitzano and Spanakopeta. We all unanimously loved Melitzano and Houmos. The pita bread that they served was warm, adding more flavour to these dishes. I wasn’t a fan of Spanakopeta but my vegetarian friend loved it.
For entrées, we ordered vegetarian mousaka and souvlaki garden. We were definitely feeling full right after appetizers, so we had a hard time finishing these entrées but otherwise would have enjoyed them too. Chicken in the salad was very well cooked; Mousaka was unique and the egg plant stuffing in it was very yummy.
It was raining during our lunch and we were sitting by the window trying these new dishes- all warm and freshly cooked. Bonus point: our waiter was very peppy and friendly too! So we definitely enjoyed the experience ❤️
TLDR; Melitzano was the highlight, HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying it!
Food:
Chicken pesto was fine however the chicken seemed like not seasoned enough, it could have little salt. The chicken skewers from Olympus plate were little rubbery, huge scope of making them more soft/ tender and juicier. One of the dolmades from this plate had a human hair wrapped in! Loved the coffee , soups were little sour for my taste. We decided we are not going here again.
Service:
The server was easy going but he should know the food that he is serving. We talked if Greek coffee had the cardamom notes in it or if the less salt in chicken was intentional, his answer for these questions was : “Another couple asked me the same question. I have no idea. I didn’t cook it.” When I pointed out the hair in Olympus plate he was gracious enough to acknowledge that and said he would discount that plate but in reality it was not discounted. Later when I mentioned about it, he gave us $2 discount in the new cheque. This hairy situation has happened to me before a few times and I have been always asked if they can replace the dish with non-hairy one or it has been completely deducted from the cheque or compensated with a complementary dessert. No such efforts were made here to rectify that bad experience. Bummer!
Ambience:
We could have eaten at any restaurant from Gilman village but the reason that we went inside this restaurant was it’s outside appearance. It has classic blue Greek look and cozy lights outside. The inside decor looks little rusty.
The lentil soup has tons of flavor!
We had a dog with us and the server was very accommodating about moving tables together on the patio for us. That was the highlight of the experience.
Food was subpar and my wife had a hair in her food.
Soup was below average. Gyro was average. Other appetizers average.
Not sure if it was because we were a large party but the waiter wrote the tip onto the bill. He actually wrote it in. We won’t be going back.
Our waiter was friendly but it didn’t make up for the experience.
