I was in town for work and wanted to try something new. I love Korean food and saw this restaurant was only 8 mins from my hotel! I’ll admit, the outside was a little scary but I know some of the BEST restaurants are “holes in the wall” type places so I decided to risk it and I’m SO GLAD I did! The inside was clean and welcoming. The older gentleman immediately greeted me warmly and sat me. I had a salad served almost right when I was sat! I ordered the Tteok-bokki and the soft tofu stew. I was asked my spice preference (I decided on mild but I could have probably handled medium). The Tteok-bokki was chewy and delicious and came with fish cakes and a boiled egg. The stew had tender mussels, shrimp, and squid. It came out bubbling with a cracked egg in it and served with a side of rice. The banchan were delicious and you got so much!! If I lived closer, this would be a regular spot for me. I was given a perfectly sweet slice of melon and some grapes to finish off my meal. Don’t let the exterior scare you away from trying this place!!

We came in to celebrate my nephew’s 10th birthday, and I cannot say enough about the hospitality, quality, and thoughtfulness of the food served.
The birthday celebration was planned because my nephew has recently become fascinated with Korean culture and has been learning a few basic Korean words, so trying Korean BBQ was his big birthday request.
As a South Carolinian, I prepared him ahead of time that once the meats came out, he would be in charge of grilling: a very important responsibility for a new 10-year-old.
Understandably, he froze:
When we walked in and saw our table was beautifully set, everything thoughtfully arranged, even down to fresh flowers, it truly made his (and our) day.
Seeing authentic banchan laid out, and the presentation, he was shy and maybe a little overwhelmed, in the sweetest way.
What meant the most, though, was the way the owners stepped in to help us make the grill, and experience seamless. They absolutely didn’t have to, but their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care was evident.
They turned what could have been a nervous moment into something joyful and memorable evening.
The food was outstanding — fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. – The quality matched the hospitality in every way.
We will absolutely be back. ( and next time, hopefully he’ll be brave enough to grill his own bulgogi!)
Highly recommend for both the experience and the heart behind a truly family owned restaurant.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat, so we searched for Korean restaurants on Google and found Sura Korea. We are so happy we tried it! The food was great, the flavors were authentic, and the service was excellent. We will definitely be coming back.

I went for the first time since it was Obok restaurant. It was always a place that felt like a place of home. Although there are some changes, especially in the interior design, the food is great! I got the Galbi box (cause i love a little bit of variety and everything) and so good! I was talking to the owner and he was saying to make sure to come back in a couple weeks when they start bringing back speciality soju cocktails! Apparently, the new owner is from New York and they had a super famous Korean restaurant. Excited to try the special drinks they offered in NY Sura!

Family has enjoyed Obok for years and just recently returned under new name, Sura. Very nice interior improvements and upgrades. Staff was incredibly kind and professional. Food was fresh and authentic. Will definitely return more often.
