Was a loyal customer when the restaurant was under the Ricos name. Went today and when I mentioned the name change was assured it was just that. The server was curt and acted bothered, not friendly at all. The food looked like slop, very visually unappealing. The taste was bland, texture was wet and soggy. I literally recieved 2 teaspoons of beans and the rice was undercooked. They say a name change but I say that change is showing in the negative as far as presentation, quality and flavor. Will not return. What a waste of $40.

Really good food. All fresh. Found taco bowl grease flavored. Sauces not very spicy but jalapeños will smack you in face. Tables a little cramped. Overall though worth the stop. Good prices.

Amazing food mediocre service. The older staff has always been very helpful and greeting. The newer staff is rude misinformed and does not understand the menu. When posed with an order discrepancy due to the new staffs ill knowledge, they had handled the situation unprofessionaly and did not resolve the situation. Resulting in us leaving with less then we paid for and spending more then what we received while waiting over an hour. Great food, spot needs revamped, staff needs properly trained.

Service was good but food was decent. Don’t get me wrong it was good but definitely lacked flavor for sure. Beans were watery and had no flavor. The rice, delicious!!! Quesabirria tacos lacked flavor, the broth looked delicious but didn’t taste like much.

Called to place an order. Girl picked up put me on hold for over 5 minutes while she helped others. I can hear her in the background. I should’ve hung up after 2 minutes but I was just curious to see how long she would make me wait. After about another minute of waiting they hung up on me. When I called back they just didnt answer smh

Cute Restaurant. Very small inside. Tables only fit up to 4. Came with a group of seven and we sat separately at 2 different tables. The menus font is fairly hard to read. Food is very good. EXTRA LARGE portions. Burritos can easily feed 3 people. Price a really good for food. Chicken is very yummy. Yummy drinks. Staff is very nice. Over definitely recommend coming.

My daughter had a doctor’s appointment in DeLand, and my grandson wanted to ride along. After school he was hungry, so we stopped in for a snack. We looked around downtown and decided on El Taco Rico. It was our first visit.
The server gave us a menu and asked us to take a seat. She came to our table shortly after with chips and salsa and took our drink order. We ordered the nachos thinking it would be a lite snack before dinner.
The steak nachos came on a large platter and were covered with lots of toppings. They looked wonderful but more like a dinner for two than a lite snake. The tortilla chips were crisp, hot, and fresh. They were covered with refried beans, crumbled steak bits, fresh crisp lettuce, vine ripe diced tomatoes, sour cream drizzled all over the top, and had a huge dollop of freshly made guacamole topping it. They looked amazing. The queso came in a boat on the side and was a white cheese sauce, not too spicy and had visible red and green peppers bits.
The nachos were great but a huge portion even for 9.99. We only ate half of the wonderful dish and asked for a box for the rest. The only negative was the steak bits. They were dry and crumbly and tasted of old oil.
I was so full I did not eat my dinner and my grandson ask my wife if he could have the nachos for dinner. She was not impressed with me for that but said OK.
I look forward to visiting this restaurant again.

It wasn’t bad but not the greatest. Their portions I would give 5 stars the only thing that made the expensive price worth it. Need more seasonings on the food was rather bland. Small little spot nothing to write home about and the service was just meh. They weren’t rude but the hospitality was sub-par for only 2 tables and mainly takeout pick up food.

So this is my first time going to El Taco Rico Mexican restaurant in downtown DeLand if you want to call it down town. I finally got to try some Birria tacos and wasn’t let down . I ordered the quesabirria tacos. 4 tacos packed with shred beef, onions, chz and cilantro. I skipped the cilantro. And Birria dipping sauce and I got a side of yellow rice. Everything was cooked and prepared just right. The meat was so tender and that every bite was better than the next. I love when I look in the kitchen and I see two older women getting ready to cook my meal. you know it’s going to be made with love and care. So yes I say give them a try you won’t be let down.
