Wonderful Vegan and Regular Tamales
I’ve been a customer for a couple of years now. I found them through the Bentonville Farmer’s Market and now they have their own storefront. I’ve tried the Vegan, Bean and Cheese, and Pork Tamales. All of them are delicious. You buy up to 5 at a time and they are good-sized tamales. I only have to eat 1 with a side to be good for a lunch.
The tamales freeze well for about a month to make for a good thing for a quick meal.
On top of tamales, the salsas are another standout. Their Salsa Oaxaquena is so unique with a wonderfully deep flavor. I’ve never had anything similar at a grocery store or restaurant. I’ve also enjoyed their tomatillo salsas.
If you’re gluten free and/or vegan looking for good local take out options, add this to your list!

The chips are amazing and the salsas are delicious, as are the tamale fillings.
My issue is that there is so little meat in the tamales and it’s all masa. I thought it was a fluke because they all appeared stuffed from the outside but every tamale I cut into was like this. I spent $95 on one dozen tamales, one bag of chips and two salsas. I can’t help but feel like I didn’t get my money’s worth at all.
Really disappointed on Christmas eve.

Fresh-made tortillas every Tuesday and Friday. How fresh? Last Tuesday I went in at my usual time (about 11:30) and was told they were a bit behind and were just starting to grind the corn. That is fresh! I didn’t mind waiting. Oh, and if you buy a package of 18 on the day they are making them, they give you two hot tortillas wrapped in a napkin to eat on your way home.

We were lucky enough to find Mamma Z’s tortilleria the other day and it is fantastic. The super friendly and helpful owner answered all of our questions and showed us around the entire shop. From start to finish, this place is the real deal. We went ahead and bought several different items and ended up loving them all. Just the quality and choice of different salsas is worth a stop by there but the tamales take it over the top. We are definitely fans and look forward to stopping in again very soon.

Besides the price being outrageous the tamales were stale, unflavored and tasted like a tortilla. Not worth it. Chicken tamales tasted Tex-Mex in a canned kind of way and Rajas were no better. Paid $60 for 12 tamales. Definitely not worth it.
