This was my first time eating at Asian Express. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and the staff was friendly. However, the food I got was not very good at all. The broth of the wonton soup was bright yellow. The wontons were fine, but nothing really special about the soup. I also got crab rangoon, which is what prompted me to write this review. It was not good at all and had little to no stuffing. Overall, I’m disappointed with this restaurant and will likely not return.

My wife and I have going there for years. There food is very good. They had the scoops of food for a $1.00 for years. Then they changed it to $1.50 a scoop. That is fine. I went there tonight to get some food for us. I found out after years of coming here, they now charge for the plate. It is more expensive now for the plate. The crabangles were sold for serving for 3. Now, you can only buy 6 at a time! I don’t want 6, I onlwant 3. We used to spend $12.00 or so for 2 people. Now it is $25.00 for 2 people! We will not go there any more! Change it back the way it used to be! To the Asian Express owner. I got your message. Considering we used to get 2 meals for around $12.00 and I have to pay $25.00 for the same meals now, I won’t be back! I can go to a nice sit in restaurant, sit in there and have a server wait on me and my wife. Get refills on drinks and such for the $25.00. Thank you.

I started going to Asian Express (where we used to call Dollar Scoop in college) when I was at Kennesaw State back in 2014. It was always an amazing spot because, as a broke college student, you could come in and get a cheap, filling meal when you really needed it. Even after college, I’d still stop by every now and then when I wanted something inexpensive and decent.

The food was always good… not amazing, but good. Sometimes it could be a little underwhelming, but you also got exactly what you paid for, so it still made sense. Over time, they gradually raised prices, which was totally expected with inflation. It went from $1 a scoop to $1.25, then $1.50. Even then, I never had an issue with it because it was still affordable and fair for what you were getting.

Fast forward to our most recent visit, and everything has changed. New menu board, and instead of paying by the scoop, they’ve completely changed the model to small/medium/large plate like any other Chinese restaurant. That was really disappointing, because it takes away what made Dollar Scoop what it was…a cheap, place to grab decent americanized Chinese food. At these prices, there are plenty of other spots I’d rather spend my money where the food is better.

My wife and I went in today and ended up leaving without eating after seeing the changes. I hope it works out for them, but unfortunately they’ve lost us as customers with this new operating model.

“Scoops”, the value packed, choose-your-own-adventure style Asian eatery is dead. They sell their food as meals now, so you’re paying for a lot of rice and cheap carbs. If you just wanted a couple types of sweet chicken and sauced veggies: that’s not a realistic expectation anymore.

I’m really glad I was there for the glory days. In 2012 this was the only place I could afford to eat out at when it was $1/scoop. I’ve taken every person I know to this place since then. You have to appreciate the good things cause nothing lasts forever. I just can’t be real optimistic about a cheap Asian food place selling expensive cheap Asian food.

In summary, it’s not bad, just overpriced. But like, REALLY overpriced and they are pushing the worst thing they offer so aggressively.

NEW OWNER AND BUSINESS MODEL EVERYTHING CHANGED FOR THE WORSE

For the ones that feel the same or have the same experience I urge you to leave a review!

I’ve consistently went since 2021, moving for school and now live in the Ksaw area. Asian Express is/was a big part of my college and somewhat of my adult life. Asian Express always seemed like one of the places that would stand the test of time and something you’d only hear about from old childhood stories from your parents. I’ve even would show new friends and family this place that would come visit me. $1.25-$1.50 was the prices I’ve been accustomed to. My last visit to Asian express was Dec 15th, 2025 I brought my 4 cousins with me and I paid about $30, $2 scoops seems fair and the food was great as always.

Fast forward I went on Jan 29th, 2026 with my significant other. I walked in was greeted and proceed to go through my normal ordering process 2 scoops lo mein etc etc …and was asked SM, M, L. Being super confused I asked the nice man helping me what he meant and was directed to the new menu of plate sizes. I was so so hurt. Seeing all the new changes in a flash I asked him what changed. I was then told that they are under a new owner and rising food costs have made it difficult to keep scoops as their business model.

Unfortunately time and inflation has gotten to a staple part of my life. I’ve spread the word to all of my friends and family that have learned about this place and loved it as much as me. I don’t know if I will ever go back with the new changes unfortunately. I hope with time the business doesn’t get hurt and have to close down due to all the changes. I know there are lots of longer tenured customs that share the same feeling as me.

I absolutely loved this place! I had become a regular, I went multiple times a week. But today sadly I went there and they no longer price per scoop. So what was once $6.36 is now $10.07 (I usually get three scoops but this is now considered a medium). A little bit less than a $4 increase and also the portions were much smaller. Sadly, they have lost a regular customer :/

I used to be a regular and I completely understand the gradual price increases from $1 scoop to $2 but changing the whole menu and doubling pricing at the same time is insane. They removed sushi off the menu (the shrimp tempura roll was so good) and made ordering the Chinese food like panda. Lost a customer as I might as well just go to Panda as at this point there’s no reason in going here anymore if it’s not going to be cheaper or have unique items

Say bye bye to $2 scoops! New owners raised the price from $1.50 scoops to $2, and figured that wasn’t enough. Now they have “entrees.” $10+ after tax for something that used to be $6 in the span of a couple of months. Yikes! Lost a 3 year regular to greed have fun explaining to every regular that the price of their meals has nearly doubled!
