John’s Wok & Roll is a cute little mom and pop restaurant located in the heart of Independence, La. The atmosphere is quite cozy with decor that’ll make you feel like you’ve been transported to another time period. The menu is filled with appetizer, entree, and kid’s items. After finally making a decision amongst the various options, I ordered the mandarin chicken with a side of meat and veggies. The food was freshly fried and smothered in sauce. To my surprise, the mandarin was far from the typical sweet, tangy, and slightly savory flavor I’v experienced before. John’s Wok & Roll Mandarin Chicken dish reminds me of fried chicken steak smothered in a country gravy. Not at all what I was expecting. Based on the rating, this will be my first and last time ordering this dish.

The utensils are plastic and annoying to eat with….I spent alot of money and food was bad ….the taste was not there …fried rice was soaked in soy sauce or something…I had a hard time eating my food….I figured the bbq pork would be good no it was tough and bland ….shrimp was ok but not as good as I had hoped

Pretty expensive for what you get, seems everything you select is an up charge, I hate the Toast app for ordering, it is a horrible beast, does not give you a clear description of what you are getting exactly, buyer beware. Also, our order was wrong, I usually check my pick up orders so shame on me, I selected lo mein instead of fried rice which was an up charge of $1.50 and received the fried rice, no lo mein. My spouse is allergic to seafood and I added that fact to the order and of course the vegetables had shrimp in it. I would expect this from a much less expensive establishment but this place is not cheap. I called them back to let them know, they offered to remake some of the order but we live 40 minutes (both ways) from the place so that was not an option for us. I asked if I could at least receive the up charge refunded on the lo mein mistake, the young lady handling the phones who was very very nice, but she stated she would have someone call me back. I remember Trey Yuen, this is no Trey Yuen not even close.

The sauce is very water and the fried rice is plain. I had the number one and my bell pepper still has the sticker on it
