We’re a Belgian bakery and restaurant serving simple, wholesome and seasonal food. Le Pain Quotidien means “the daily bread” in French, and like our name suggests, we’re bakers at heart. Although our handmade, organic bread is how we got our start, we serve a variety of healthy options like organic coffee, pastries, eggs, tartines, soups, salads and desserts.
At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that food should be simple, nourishing and delicious. That’s why we source ingredients that are local or organic whenever possible. We also believe in the importance of eating a healthy, plant-based diet, so you’ll find many vegetarian or vegan options on our menu.
Classic light fare & organic breads fill out the menu at this rustic-chic bakery/cafe chain.

This is my new favorite LPQ in the city. The food in LPQ is always good! My go-to items from the menu are the Skillet-Baked Eggs with Bacon and Scallion and the French Cream Doughnut.
This particular branch stands out from the others because of the following reasons: nice neighborhood, the interior space is clean, the music they play is relaxing, the restrooms are spotless, and the service is amazing!
My husband and I just had breakfast here this morning after our weekend long walk. We would definitely go there again. Highly recommended!

We often walk around in NYC to see what’s happening. Today we were on the upper Eastside and stopped in at this Le Pain location. We have stopped here a couple of times over the past few years.
Today we had coffee and the Belgium Chocolate Brownie. The coffee was strong and good. The brownie was fantastic and quite large.

The food is as good as remembered. It was spacious and clean inside. It felt comfortable inside.
It was open early and that was convenient for us.
The bakery looked and smelled awesome.
The waffle was tinier than I expected, and it might just be a NYC thing.

The line is always short and the person at the counter has always been friendly. I like their pain au chocolat and baguettes are passable. I’ve never eaten in the dining room but I see people there all the time with laptops or eating and chatting and it looks like a good atmosphere. They run out of baguettes by the afternoon sometimes.

I’ve been to a few midtown locations for breakfast and lunch, but it’s my first time here. My schoolmate and I decided to come here for lunch so she could introduce her newborn son. Adorable baby! Unfortunately, he couldn’t eat yet, lol. I had eggs and avocado in a skillet, and she had a Cobb salad. My lunch was not bad. The avocado was fresh. Anything cooked on a skillet always turns out well. The skillet has some magic! I also had an unsweetened iced tea. I liked my simple lunch. Her salad looked good too. The service was good and the place was pretty big with outdoor and indoor seats. The indoor dining area is enormous. The baby’s stroller fits in between the two tables. That’s how big each space is. They have been consistent with fresh ingredients. It’s a good place for breakfast or lunch.

Typical modern posh eatery. Overpriced below average food that they up charge because of the ambiance. Don’t get the soft boiled eggs if you intend to eat them. Pastries are very nice and interesting. The service is adequate.

There is an employee that works at this location who always has a bad attitude. I’ve had 2 encounters with him and both were unpleasant. We stopped by yesterday around 4:30 (he was wearing a green sweater)didn’t even look our way to tell us they weren’t serving anymore. I understand maybe the kitchen was closed but it was very unapologetic and rude the way he told us. My first encounter he seemed annoyed when I walked in and left me waiting at the register to order until finally he walked up to the register, took my order, and didn’t even tell me the price just handed the pastries and walked away.

Looking for a good bakery experience? Well, look no further! This spot offers truly superb food that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy. Sure, the service may be a tad slow, and a few staff members could work on their friendliness, but hey, it’s all worth it once you sink your teeth into their delicious treats. If you’re not in a rush and don’t mind a little wait for some mouthwatering toast, this charming bakery is definitely the place for you. Treat yourself and indulge in their scrumptious creations!

I am really disappointed: Just messed up a brand new pullover on one of their broken chairs that had nails stick out all around its back. No chance to put that one on again but apart from the offer to get it fixed somehow and have Pain Q. pay for it (I do not live in NYC) and an “I am sorry, I wish I could do more” there was nothing to make up for a ruined new pullover. It is not always about money. Sometimes a small gesture like the offer of a free drink or tiny sweet makes all the change.

Unapologetic early close without reason, very limited selection, and unable to understand an order for ‘black ice coffee’. This location (1592 1st Av) remains unimpressive.
FYI for owner: additional ‘training’ cannot instill courtesy from unfriendly and incompetent staff who obviously … don’t care.
