We celebrated our 20th anniversary here. Married in Jamaica and this gem of a find was the perfect spot.
Located atop a quiet clothing store, you are transported into a genuine Carribean experience. Not just by the decor, the drinks, or the authentic food, but the coveted hospitality Jamaica is known for!
I can tell you how good the food was, but stop wasting time reading this review and GO! Experience Caypso Cove for yourself!
The menu was smallish yet quite varied and the four of us ordered apps and entrees to share. We all agreed that every dish we ordered was incredibly tasty and flavorful. If you like to eat out often or you’re a foodie you will notice that everything is made with love—a rare quality even in the best of restaurants. The salmon presentation was unique and so pretty that we all took pictures before anyone was allowed to put a fork in it. The grilled salmon was placed inside a pineapple half with the rice hidden underneath the salmon. We had a delicious Caribbean Caesar with a house made dressing with just the right kick of heat on the finish—not spicy at all and we all loved it. The side of plantains was perfection and I was so happy because this is the first time in years (since my trips to South Beach years ago) that I have had plantains cooked perfectly—very soft yet with a nice bite to them. Most places don’t cook them through and they can end up tasting like unripe bananas.
We went back a second time and ordered the only pasta dish with the Alfredo style creamy sauce, with an island twist, and it had such a wonderful depth of flavor—as good as any sauce my grandmother ever made. Fried chicken was sooo good. The quesadilla was thick and stuffed and yummy!
It is located up on a deck overlooking Commercial Street and it has a very cool vibe—an island feel without being overdone and in very comfortable setting. Calypso Cove was, overall, a very satisfying and engaging experience on all levels. I would give it a 9 1/2 out of 10 stars. The (always smiling) happy waitresses look more like models than servers and they are genuinely kind and caring. Their only dessert in a deliciously moist carrot cake which they serve warm and that alone is worth the trip!!
The waitress that we had was so attentive, personable, and polite!
It is on the second floor with a decent amount of stairs, which I was able to use with AFO braces. I am not sure if there is easier access around building for mobility impaired persons. It’s definitely worth visiting!
