Friends and I wanted a quick sandwich place after leaving the airport, and this happened to be close by. I had literally the best sandwich of my life here (the Parma). It’s been a week now and I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT THAT SANDWICH. All my friends were equally impressed with theirs and we are still talking about them. Unfortunately I’m back in Portland and cannot get another. I’m considering making another trip to Palm Springs just for another sandwich.

The Real Italian Deli is, without question, one of the greatest culinary gems in Palm Springs. Their food is absolutely out of this world — the kind of flavors that stop you mid-bite because they’re just that good.

This place also holds a special place in my heart. When my grandfather Ron was still alive — a full-blooded Italian whose parents were born in Calabria and were truly passionate cooks — I brought my grandparents here for lunch. My grandfather raved about it, calling it the best Italian deli he had ever eaten at in his entire life.

That means more than I can possibly express. His lifelong dream, even after running a successful hair salon for 38 years, was to open an authentic Italian deli of his own. Sandwich making was his art. For him to praise this place so highly is the absolute highest compliment I could ever give any restaurant.

I recently returned for lunch with my new friend and we were thrilled to discover that the quality is still every bit as incredible as it was eight years ago. Same flavors, same craftsmanship, same unforgettable experience.

If you want real Italian food made with passion, skill, and heart — this is the spot. Always has been. Always will be.

We got the lead on this spot from a nice employee at the BIKES palm springs. We were looking for a great sandwich spot and we are so glad he told us about The Real Italian Deli. They staff was super organized, fast and very attentive. I can be particular and she listened to each request and happily made my half turkey and provolone sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes and light on the great pesto aoli on a fresh homemade facassia bread. My husband got the best chicken cutlet with parm and sauce on a homemade toasted torpedo roll. They were both perfect. Staff was quick and pleasant, fellow patrons were all locals and very friendly.

My friend ordered Italian sandos for dinner, and even though I ate lunch at 3pm, the sandwich from this deli tasted amazing at 7pm. I tried the Spicy Combo, which was very satisfying. The ratio of fluffy fresh bread and filling of Italian meats and veggies was on point. The Supreme Mortadella sounded intriguing with pistachio mortadella and pistachio paste, but it could have used a lot more pistachio and oomph. We also shared arancini (so delicious after popping them in the air frier), a cheese platter (so perfect), and salad for good measure. This deli is a great choice for take-out after a long travel day.

The bread/meat/cheese sandwiches are good. They are on the pricey side for a sandwich.

This place rocks! The best sandwhich place in Palm Springs. The bread was fresh and crunchy and the meat and cheese fresh and delicious. Definitely a must when in town.

This place is a 10/10. Meatball sandwich is absolutely amazing. I’m Sicilian, and one bite of this sandwich took me back to my noni’s house. The Muffuletta was outstanding, the lemon Caprese cake was lovely. The staff is warm, and inviting. They even had Sicilian nougats that I used to eat when I was a little girl. So happy that places like this exist.

First time at this deli with good ratings. I ordered the turkey pesto with the torpedo bread- hard as a rock even the inside was a little dry. Inside ingredients good. I was not expecting a miserable sandwich- I had to ask for another bread so I can transfer the inside ingredients in order to have a decent sandwich.

Mixed experience, I’ll have to try this place again. The muffaletta sandwich was awesome on the delicious focaccia bread, but the eggplant Parmesan tasted like old oil, it was stale and tasted a few days old. We ended up having to throw it out. My husband had tried to order it as a sandwich, but there must’ve been a miscommunication. Either way, even on a sandwich it wouldn’t have been great. Excited to try the other sandwiches on the takeout menu!

We ordered cannolis and they were ransid. It was clear the shells were not freshly baked. We had to throw them out because they had turned. The filling comes out of a bag and is not house made. The filing was fair.

The other dessert…chocolate cake, carrot cake and tiramisu were ok but nothing to write home about. The carrot cake had coconut on it which is weird.

I will not go back for desserts.
