Drawing on the rich culinary traditions of the Rio Grande Valley, La Tejana brings authentic, made-from-scratch breakfast tacos to the heart of Mount Pleasant. Co-founded by a native of the region, Ana-Maria Jaramillo, and DC native, Gus May, the restaurant is committed to crafting honest, straightforward food. Each taco is a testament to this dedication, served on a freshly made, house-made flour tortilla. From cage-free eggs sourced from local farms to every lovingly prepared ingredient, La Tejana elevates the simple breakfast taco into an art form. This is more than a meal; it’s a taste of a treasured RGV tradition, right in Washington, D.C.

We tried their breakfast tacos and their drinks in the upstairs section. The drinks were very pretty but just ok, but their breakfast tacos are to die for. Their homemade tortillas paired with all of the different selections they have available for fillings make these a must have if you’re in the area and want a great breakfast.

We got married during a once-in-a-decade DC snow storm, and the La Tejana team were absolute heroes in making sure that the intrepid guests (most of who were out-of-towners whose flights were canceled) who made the trek to our Sunday brunch were well-fed by Mt. P’s finest. Gus and the team went above and beyond to make sure we were able to feed folks, even though the store itself was closed. We always knew we were #blessed to have La Tejana in our community, but this was exceptional, and we cannot recommend it enough. Obviously the food is fantastic, but the service and care they have for their clients and neighbors makes this just the best place. They truly live their values. Our youngest niece (who lives in the UK) is now approximately 10% taco by bodyweight thanks to La Tejana.

Just okay. I waited in line because I’ve had this place saved for a long time and a friend recommended I go here. Got 6 tacos and they all kind of tasted the same, lacking real flavor or spice. The avocado tomatillo salsa was good but I was disappointed in everything else. Also the tacos were not distinguishable from the wrapping which is slightly annoying since I got different tacos for different people. Ordered the cafe de olla which was good! The dirty horchata didn’t offer much to be desired.

What better way of spending a Saturday afternoon than getting access to the number one breakfast burrito spot in DC. I’ve heard about La Tejana through different networks on social media. We got there around 11:30am and waited about 45 minutes until we placed our order. The order came out relatively quick, which was nice. It’s a cool little spot and a neighborhood gem. They are open from 7:30 AM to 1 PM and then they open again at 5 PM. They have a very friendly staff and the quality of their food is top tier. My friend and I sat upstairs, which had plenty of seating. I ended up getting four tacos and it was the perfect amount of food for me. My favorite was the 512. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they do pick up orders. The restaurant has been open for about two years now and every weekend the line is out the door as you can see in the images. Looking forward to getting a chance to go back it’s probably less busier early in the morning.

Best breakfast taco in the DMV and crave those handmade tortillas. I sneak in on a weekday morning to avoid the weekend lines. Great selection. I love the one with chorizo but all are great! Staff so friendly!

After relocating from Texas last year, we finally had the chance to visit your restaurant. It was a delightful surprise to see such a long line, showcasing how much others appreciate the food I treasure. Thank you for capturing the authentic 956 spirit in your tacos. My family is from Edinburg, and your tortillas taste EXACTLY as I remember my grandma’s. Mil gracias!

Been wanting to come here forever. So many times, after waiting so long, popular places don’t live up to the hype – La Tejana did not disappoint! Everything was excellent – the tortillas and every ingredient inside them were fresh, well seasoned, and delicious! I am so grateful that my unexpected morning trip took me by here! I will definitely come back!

Amazed with this food.
The place is located at a busy area so parking is a challenge.
There’s a line to order and the place is pretty small so come with time and patience. Once ordered it comes out pretty quick.
I got the 512- which is a brisket taco and it is more expensive than the others in the menu. It was all it promised to be.
I also got the migas taco and it was pretty great as well.
Their green sauce was amazing so I would definitely ask for extras next time.
This was a great place to have breakfast, they have a little outside sitting area and some sitting inside I think since I saw some people that went up stairs after ordering.
This is definitely worth it and I will come back

I like their drinks, coffee, and evening menu. The staff is very nice and the space is very cute! The breakfast tacos are good but I would not call them authentic.
They call the tacos Rio Grande Valley-inspired but they’re definitely closer to the trendy Austin spec. I’m from the Raymondville and queso and raw onions in a breakfast taco is a wild choice.

Nice little spot to enjoy Texas breakfast burritos & tacos that includes a tasty array of sauce. Simple but delicious! The coffee and service are good too! There are a few tables to eat outside but otherwise it’s mostly take out. I had the Tio Willie, 956 & La Chorippa. I’ll be back for the 512 that includes Texas BBQ brisket. The owner was very personable and asked how I was enjoying the food. These places remind me of my time in the Southwest and California.
