Such a refreshing departure from sterilized, commercially run eateries. The atmosphere is rustic, lived in, and a little run down. It’s perfect! Our server was welcoming and warm. Ordered the Bison Gold Medal and was astonished at the size. (Yes, I do finish the whole thing). Perfect place to stop on the way home after a long drive through the mountains. True Colorado hospitality!

Stopped here when traveling though Hartsel.
The hubby had a burger with mushrooms and bacon and a side salad. Pretty good.
I had a cheddar bacon burger with fries. The burger was pretty good but the fries were terrible. They were burnt and had a very distinct and strong taste of vinegar, maybe like rotten/bad potatoes.
I realize it’s out a ways but for $20 a burger & side, I expected more.
The service was a two- star experience at best. We had to ask for common things like utensils and napkins, were never checked in on (or I would have mentioned the fries) and didn’t even recognize me as someone who’d already ordered and eaten, when I went up to the bar to pay our bill.
I can’t say we’d stop again.

If you traveling through the small town of Hartsel on your way or back from the George Lake or Eleven mile state park, and you are hungry, look no where. This 1850 small eatery cum bar has everything you are looking for. The breakfast, lunch drinks are awesome and they put their heart into the food. I love the same old school charm they have maintained over the years. We were greeted by Jimmy, Oh man he is a happy soul and amazing person. He knows what you want. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Can not praise them enough. Must visit

Highline Cafe and Saloon in Hartsel is a great stop if you’re looking for a laid-back atmosphere, good food, and friendly people! The cheeseburger and fries were delicious—fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. It’s the kind of meal that really hits the spot, especially after a day of exploring.

What really stands out is the team working here. The staff are welcoming, down-to-earth, and clearly work well together. You get the sense that it’s a close-knit group that genuinely enjoys what they do, which adds to the warm and comfortable feel of the place. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Highline is definitely worth the stop!

My husband and I ate breakfast here just passing through town. The place is just a old hole in the wall with a ton of rustic and mountain charm. The waitress was so sweet (also had a great singing voice) and the food was amazing. The very friendly locals informed us that this establishment was closing in 4 days….I hate seeing these mom and pop shops close but am so glad we stopped in and got to experience it!

The bacon blue cheese burger was awesome! The fries have got me looking forward to the next visit. We stopped in for lunch while traveling. The vibe is mountain town with home cooking and great service.

This was heaven, homemade breakfast, no fast food cookie cutter style. Small restaurant with so much personality and history. It is strongly recommended for you to stop by on your way to wherever. Our waitress has a wonderful attitude and full of life.

Small mountain restaurant, very casual, supper friendly staff. Burgers were great, fries fresh cut. Was able to sit outside with our dog. It is next to the road, but it’s got mountain views so who cares. If you’re driving though and hung is a great place to stop.

Highline Cafe & Saloon blends rustic charm with a relaxed, lively atmosphere. It’s known for its hearty pub-style fare—burgers, wings, and sandwiches—along with a solid drink menu featuring local beers and cocktails. The decor leans western or mountain lodge-inspired, making it a cozy hangout whether you’re stopping in after a hike or just out with friends. Service is generally friendly, and live music or events are common. A dependable local spot for casual eats and drinks.
