Kugo Japanese Restaurant

Went to eat here and they had a paper sign hand written on the door that said closed 3-4.. it was 3:57 so I checked the door to see if it was time yet. It was open. We stood at the counter while 4 employees where in the back of the restaurant. After they noticed us walk in then began to talk to each other if they should actually serve us or not… Then the waitress comes up and says we can serve you but not for another half an hour…

Let me first say we used to love this place it never bounced back after COVID. Also having sushi in Myrtle Beach this feels like Giant grocery store sushi. Are table was set but had food on it when we came in today. $150 plus tip for 5 I need a clean table and fresher food.

Walked into this place with my brother, and was going to be sat at a table that was right on top of another family. I requested to sit at another table right behind, which was a large table. The old female that claims she is a manager, after agreeing to seat us there, and after we received our drinks told us to move to another table since a large party walked in?! When originally she agreed to seat us at this table. When we told her we will just leave then, she smiled and said okay! My family and I will NEVER eat at this place again, and I have been coming here for years! The old lady that runs the place looks like she does not like her job at all! Avoid this place if you truly care about being treated with respect, and not thrown out so you can make more money off a larger party! Disgusting!

We ordered our food and after an hour and fifteen minutes it had still not arrived. We asked how much longer it would be and they could not give us an answer. We told the polite waitress that we just wanted to cancel our order. She was embarrassed on the way the nasty lady (I’m assuming the owner) was treating us. After paying $20 for three side salads we left. No apologies were offered only nasty looks from that same nasty lady working the register. I will never visit this place again.

We have ordered sushi take out a number of times and it’s delicious!

We went recently for hibachi for the first time, it was excellent. Delicious food, fun atmosphere, and the staff were great. It was my husband’s birthday and they surprised us by bringing him a dessert and singing.

Food was great…but spent 2 hours here. Took forever to get drinks, food and the checks. Had a coupon for the dinner and they would not accept it even tho it was more then valid. Also got sushi with an allergy of something in it. They made it wrong an the solution to fixing it was just take it off and still serve it until we over heard them saying that. Then they remade it an were rude about it.

The chef was wonderful, the food was great. But the service was absolutely terrible. The waitress was new, mistakes happen, but she got EVERYTHING wrong; drinks, soups and salads, veggies and meats. The chef had to call the manager over to ask her to take the trays of meats and veggies to the back to get the correct things and she said “I’m busy do it yourself” so he had to leave the food he already had cooking and run to the back to switch everything. He came back and got right back to it, and we assured him it was fine no rush; not realizing they only had one chef going and two tables waiting for probably over an hour. A wait time definitely should’ve been given at the door. The manager was walking around helping the waitress because everything was getting so backed up, and she was also just extremely rude; eye rolls, no response and would just keep walking when we tried to call her over. I hope that chef gets the recognition he deserves. He was hilarious and great entertainment despite the pressure he was under.

I placed a pickup and they said 25 minutes. I went in 5 minutes after the time they said but had to wait an extra 50 minutes. People walked in, ate, and left before i got my food. Unfortunately it wasn’t worth the wait. The sushi felt old and poor quality, almost no rice on the roll, the shrimp was rubbery, and the seaweed salad tasted like it was fermented for months. Just disappointing overall.

Took my young son here for a late lunch today. He was excited to see they had tempura and that it came with miso soup. He order shrimp tempura and veggies. It came out looking delicious. The shrimp was large and the veggies looked fresh. He also got a nice helping of rice to go with it all. Of course, being so much, he had leftovers. I ordered the sashimi appetizer, sushi appetizer and Miso soup. So good. We both enjoyed our meals and my son calls it the best place for oriental food ever! As soon as we walked out the door, he was already asking when we could go again.
