We are so grateful to return to Casa Ybel Resort. The renovations and landscaping are absolutely beautiful.
The upper level of Coconuts Bar at Thistle Lodge offers a stunning and uninterrupted view of the shoreline, and we were treated to a glorious sunset. My happy hour crabcake and roasted beet spinach salad were outstanding! We were also delighted to have a delicious dinner at Thistle Lodge our last night on the island. Filet mignon & scallops.
My husband said it was the best lobster mac he had ever had, and my Caesar salad was among the best I’ve had anywhere.
Our family have been owners since Casa Ybel opened, we were very moved by some of the long time staff that shared their memories of our dear special needs brother Gary who had passed last summer. Almost everyone who uses the pool over weeks 51 through week 1 knew Gary, especially if you ever joined him in “his” hot tub.
The servers who remembered him were Gregoria and Rosy. Also pictured in the photo are server Rene and bartender Jeremiah, along with me & my hubby.
Thank you to all of the staff at Thistle Lodge, Coconuts, the front desk, the housekeeping and the maintenance people at Casa Ybel.

Thistle Lodge recently reopened and the results are impressive. We had dinner with friends on Christmas eve. Wonderful beach view from the tables. All the staff were great and very accommodating. I ordered sea bass, my wife a seafood pasta, our friends ordered lamb and seafood. All were excellent. Definitely a wonderful experience.

Angela and Jeremiah were hilarious- so welcoming, goofy and lovely. We just had a small snack but they kept us laughing the entire time and the view is incredibly serene. The area is the epitome of tranquility.
Will definitely be stopping to have a full meal next time!

Great experience! We sat next to window with amazing view of the gulf at sunset. Fast friendly service. Highlight- experienced bartender Jeremiah made the BEST Pina Colada I have ever tasted all over the world! Five Stars!!!

We had a great time! The service was wonderful and extremely attentive to every need! Omar, the chef truly brings his love of cooking to the forefront with each dish. We had the ahí tuna and shrimp cocktail for starters which were lovely and refreshing. My mom and I shared the filet and Jamaican jerk shrimp and it was delicious with the flavor profile of absolute love! My dad had the scallops with the nightly special risotto which was also fantastic! They are newly reopened and working to do a great job, you’d be sorry not to visit on your trip!

REOPENED 12/22/2025. Exquisite dishes with masterful flavors: three enticing unique appetizers, saffron cioppino, Provençal shellfish in subtle lemon white wine garlic basil sauce, perfect rack of lamb with pistachio and mint, filet mignon, seared divers scallops on risotto, light buttery chicken alfredo, a nice vegetarian mushroom layered with roasted red pepper sauce, delicious specialty desserts. Very nice celebration spot with beach views and expert service. Hat tip to this chef!

We ordered a Josh Chardonnay and were sitting directly at the bar when we watched the bartender pour boxed Franzia instead. When we questioned it, she denied it. The manager then stepped in and said it was their “house wine,” which isn’t listed on the menu, and seemed annoyed that we even brought it up.
If a house wine is being served instead of the brand ordered, that should be clearly communicated before it’s poured. The lack of transparency and the dismissive response from management were disappointing.

I brought a client of mine here the other day after looking at properties in the area and I must say the food has really gone downhill compared to how it was before Ian.
I ordered the special, black grouper, expecting it to be as good as meals I have had here in the past but it came out with no sauce and even though it looked half cooked it still tasted burnt. On the top was a scoop of cold mashed potatoes I couldn’t even bring myself to taste and a flower for some reason? The flower looked more appealing than anything else on the plate.
My client ordered a steak medium rare and it came out very well done. It was so dry it left dust when he tried to cut into it.
We both sent the meals back and the manager on duty came by to apologize. She and our server were both wonderful and very attentive, but back of house seems to be a bit of a mess. I even heard raised voices, male voices and our server was female, coming from the kitchen after the server brought our plates back to get re-made. From what I saw while waiting for our meal to return we weren’t the only table having issues as I had seen no fewer than three other tables send their food back in a 20 minute period or so.
Whatever has happened here since the last time I came needs to be fixed asap or I won’t ever come back again.

Beware the new renovation of Thistle Lodge may appeal to those who like Sundial’s beach bar, but it doesn’t resemble the fine dining establishment with tons of character that it once was; yet the prices are for fine dining.
Views are gorgeous. Service was terrible. Food was highly overpriced. If you’re looking for someplace special to take someone, try Cielo’s. Views may not be beachfront but service, atmosphere and quality is top notch.
