This location used to be good but recently it has gone done heel, the food taste and quality is not the same and they are always hiring for kitchen help. Their spring rolls are under cooked, that can make someone sick. This will be my last time visiting this location!

Only giving one star because zero isn’t an option. My husband has ordered Chicken Fried Rice from Golden Sun multiple times, but tonight’s order will be the last. He was very sick & in & out of the bathroom many times before he could even finish his meal. He said he’s not even sure that the chicken was actually chicken… it had a very odd texture & flavor. I called to ask if he could get a refund (full or partial) & I was rudely told by the man that answered (bless his heart), “that’s bullshit… go to the hospital & if they say it was my food that made him sick I’ll give him his money back,” to which I replied, “I’ll solve the problem we won’t be back to get sick again & I’ll let the rest of Athens know this isn’t the same Golden Sun we’ve been used to for years.” As I was posting this review, I saw other reviews speaking of the bad food & bad new management… & I couldn’t agree more. This isn’t the only restaurant in town & is far from the best but it’s convenient so we overlook some lesser issues we’ve had with them in the past, however after tonight’s issues we will go elsewhere. Management needs to wake up before they are out of business. *They also need to update their online menu prices because they’re charging nearly double what the menu says & the meal description says it comes with choice of soup & egg rolls but it doesn’t. So if you want to pay too much to get sick from questionable meat & disrespected when you attempt to share the issue with them, then by all means hurry to the Golden Sun off Lexington Hwy.

They probably don’t remember me but back in 2012 I visited this establishment on an internship at UGA. At the time I was broke and saving my money from the internship to help pay for my college education or else be homeless and degree less once the internship was done. One night I decided to treat myself and went to eat here with a group of lab buddies. Now my financial situation wasn’t the best I even overdrew my account eating here but who wants their friends to know they’re broke at such a young age ? Anyway, I didn’t have enough to cover a tip but paid for my meal in full, and as I was leaving the lady ran after me and berated me for not tipping in front of my friends which was extremely embarrassing. Fast forward to 2025 and I’m now a board certified pediatric surgeon. I’ve never forgotten how these people made me feel in that situation and only didn’t speak up at the time because I was young, Black and aware that I was in a pretty conservative area despite it being near the UGA campus. I hope nothing but the worst for this establishment for their lack of empathy and blatant racism.

Great Chinese restaurant. Located in the corner of the Walmart plaza, don’t be put off by the non-rescript exterior. Interior is very nice and definitely a cut above many Chinese restaurants. We had shrimp Lo mein and hot and spicy four treasures lunch specials with egg drop soup and the best hot and sour soup I have had. Food was plentiful, fresh and very tasty although the spicy dishes could be spicier (as a regular, you could ask them to spice it up a little). Service was excellent and the cost was good especially for the food quality and quality.

We ordered takeout: beef w/ broccoli, Mongolian chicken, and orange chicken. The Mongolian chicken was very good. The orange chicken turned out to be general tso’s, and the beef was just terrible. We couldn’t eat it, the meat might’ve been bad.
As far as atmosphere, the front is mirrored glass because of the sunsets , but the glass is filthy.

This used to be my favorite Chinese food spot and a real hidden gem. It’s been horrible since switching management. I got the hot and sour soup I used to rave about with my meal and it tasted like water – not to mention 60% of the ingredients were suddenly missing. The spring rolls (?) always taste off and are undercooked and mushy inside. The prices have doubled on some of my favorite dishes like Egg Fu Yung while the portion sizes shrank. Last time I went, the chicken in my meal was horribly overcooked and dry. The sauces now taste like they’re skimping on ingredients – you used to be able to see the ingredients they cooked with in the meals. At this point, you’d be better off getting the frozen fried rice and orange chicken from Trader Joe’s. A real disappointment. I hope they make some serious changes or this place isn’t going to last.
