Cazs Great Fish Cambridge: Fresh, Flavorful Fish and Chips in …
Reviews
What I appreciated most was the friendly atmosphere. The staff welcomed me warmly, took time to explain the menu, and even gave recommendations about portion sizes. It felt less like a fast-food stop and more like a small family-style restaurant where people genuinely care about their customers. The prices were also fair for the quality of food. I felt that I received good value for the money, especially compared to other fish and chip places.
That being said, there are a few areas for improvement. At busier times, the wait can be a bit long, and I did notice that the food can sometimes be a little heavy on the oil. The tartar sauce could also use a bit more flavor. However, these are minor issues compared to the overall quality.
In the end, I would happily recommend Caz’s Great Fish to anyone in Cambridge looking for a hearty meal and a welcoming dining experience. It’s not fancy, but it delivers on taste, service, and comfort!
They serve all the proper staples—halibut, haddock, and cod—and they do it right. I usually go for the halibut, which is always cooked perfectly: crisp batter and tender, flavorful fish. And the mushy peas are done right just like in the UK.
Whether you’re a Brit abroad or just love a good plate of fish and chips, you won’t be disappointed.
This is what eat in a family business restaurant should be every time.
From the moment I entered with my wife we felt that warm greeting.
The staff was really nice, their suggestions amazing !
The fish was in the right point. No too much batter and no too little.
We didn’t know if we wanted the Shrimps batter or baked and the person who was helping us suggested to get half and half (you can see them in the picture). I personally liked more baked but my wife batter so it was the perfect suggestion.
The price was really competitive with other restaurants that offer the same food.
I’m thinking in bring my corporate events to them, it would be nice to to the end of the year lunch there or some birthday celebrations.
Overall a 5 out 5 starts.
I wish I could say something wrong about this place then it doesn’t look all good but really, I couldn’t find anything wrong with food, staff or the atmosphere.
The staff here are wonderful— especially Anna. She served the food for us and she is friendly and truly welcoming. It’s clear they care about their customers and take pride in serving high-quality food.
If you love fish and chips, don’t miss out this spot. One of the best in town. I’ll definitely be back soon!
Back in the day, it used to be the place to go and it was really good back then. But unfortunately, NOT anymore. I will never go back there. They should take notes from STATE & MAIN (there fish and chips are awesome!)
The petite girl got lucky and got tipped by my buddy and myself accidentally.
It seems the restaurant is going downhill with only a handful of customers. Too bad. The owners just lost our business.
Ended up in Cambridge for some weird reason. Decided we wanted fish and chips. So we scouted the area until we stumbled across this place that was just off the main road.
The place is sandwiched between a Vietnamese/Thai and Indian restaurant. If we weren’t looking explicitly for fish and chips, we would have easily drove past it.
The wait staff was super helpful. She answer all of our questions. But to be honest, there really isn’t too much on the menu to ask about. The thing we asked was regarding portion sizes.
The place is fairly quaint. Even though it was a Saturday, the place didn’t seem very busy. We ordered two pieces of cod with fries and a side order of onion rings.
The batter on the fish is super light and crispy. The fish was moist but yet flakey. The fries had a great potato taste to them. The only complaint I had was the tartar sauce. It was very bland resembling straight mayonnaise. I would have expected a place like this to make their own tartar sauce. Or if they do make their own, they really need a new recipe.
The meal was great until you reach the bottle of the plate or the basket. The amount of oil that accumulated at the bottom was unusually high. Much more oil than other fish and chip stores we visited. It was just a sobering reminder that there’s a lot of oil used in deep fried foods. Taking one star off the food for the excess oil.
Overall, it was a pleasant meal. You won’t be disappointed so long as you don’t look at your plate when you finish.
