Great small local place. The restaurant was clean, and the workers were very polite and welcoming. Food was great and the chicken tasted fresh and crispy. The fried rice was actually fried rice, the crab ragoons were huge and fantastic. Overall, I can say that I would 100% ABSOLUTELY come here before ever going back to any other Chinese food restaurant around.

I don’t want to bash this restaurant; we have always loved ordering from here. We recently found another place we also love but they don’t serve lo mien, and some other items Shanghai used to do so well. So, we still like to order from here, from time to time, as well. We hadn’t for a couple months but decided to recently. They’ve changed significantly. The beef and broccoli and chicken and broccoli were slim on protein and HEAVY on broccoli that was undercooked. We don’t like it soggy, but this was almost not edible. The beef and chicken were sliced SO thinly, not at all like it used to be. The beef looked like that which you’d buy in the freezer section to make beefsteaks… Barely any flavor to it, only flavor came from the sauce accompanying it. We understand the economy is tough, it is for patrons too. Charging over $62 for something that should have cost less than half of that for what was served was very disappointing. We know Shanghai and they can do better. We really hope they do.

The food is excellent and the lunch prices are very fair. The owner speaks very fast so you need to be on your toes to understand. Bust she is so very kind and will make almost anything to please her customers. Not much seating so this is better for take out. The place is clean and they have many options for your dinning. And they offer the lunch special up till 3PM every day they are open, very few offer this. It is another reason I so enjoy this place. And the are open on Christmas day another special treat. They are closed Tuesday’s. This is one of my go to places. Enjoy good food and be able to leave with money in your wallet.

Me and my family have been eating here for 14 years straight and still going. Fantastic food, always hot and tasty and after a certain price amount, you get a free dish whether that be a free eggroll, a free fried rice or a free soup .this place is great!

Wow! I moved here from Charlotte 7 months ago and tonight was the first night I had take out Chinese since moving here. The food was unbelievable! I got the vegetable egg roll, wonton soup, crab rangoon, and vegetable lomein. It was all delicious! All of it was such perfection, no sauces were needed for any of it. The woman helping me behind the counter was very pleasant, asking me how many fortune cookies I wanted. Folks, this is better than any Chinese restaurant I have been to in Charlotte. Will definitely be back here very soon. It makes my week knowing there is outstanding Chinese takeout right here in Five Forks.

Beyond AMAZING!! I would give them a 20 star rating if I could. The Food is authentic and absolutely delicious. Fresh and piping hot. It all tastes like its been made from scratch. I felt like I was actually in Shanghai when eating it. Super friendly staff, the place was very clean. Best Asian food in South Carolina. We’re so happy that we found them because we haven’t had any good Asian food for a very long time.
We will be coming here any time we are hungry for Asian food from now on.

Imagine ordering soup and rice, you have a confirmation number and everything, and then you sit and wait for two and a half hours as every single other person gets food. Turns out they never printed your ticket or started to make it! Awesome. Good thing it was only soup and rice, which took about 3 minutes to bag up; hmm seems like you didn’t actually need to take thirty minutes per order. Do not ever make the mistake of coming here on a holiday; if you can’t handle making 30 orders, just close for the day.

Excellent food and fair prices. They are always very nice and kind. This is more for carry out, but they do have 3 or 4 tables to eat there. Evey dish we have had are always very good and very tasty. Much better deal than the place behind them.

I must applaud all the hard work from everyone here on Christmas Eve! The place was packed from everyone picking up take-out orders and, even though there was a long wait, the food was absolutely wonderful!! Thank you for all the hard work to help make our holiday a delight.

This was actually a series of 1.5 star experiences but I don’t want to tank their average ratings – I once enjoyed this restaurant and hope they return to their former quality.
The hot and sour soup is usually a good gauge of the overall food experience. It has been very bland and lacking complexity. General Tso chicken was very underwhelming, didn’t taste like much of anything. Egg rolls limp, sad, even underfilled, disappointing. Sesame chicken decent but not good except by comparison to the other food which was decidedly bad.
Really adding insult to injury though was this latest time, the fortune cookies contained ADS FOR A GAMBLING WEBSITE, and fake fortunes. Maybe all fortunes are fake, but these weren’t true to the form and simply promoted gambling (“You may get lucky very soon,” “Your golden chance awaits,”) with a gambling website on the back. Very distasteful. The restaurant must have gotten them for free but it’s a bad impression on the customer. Not worth the negative image. Imagine handing your child a fortune cookie and it’s just a gambling advertisement.
We will be back in hopes Shanghai Tokyo improves to their previous quality levels. But we will also shop around because this hasn’t been cutting it.
