Arriving on a Friday around 5 PM, the place wasn’t too busy as people were likely on their way home from work. The ambiance had a nice vibe, despite the cold air conditioning blasting at 60°. It took a little bit of searching to find someone at the counter, and there was a small language barrier as the person mostly spoke Spanish. However, pointing at certain items helped clear the confusion. After requesting to turn off the air conditioning, things started to feel more comfortable.
The layout of the restaurant was unique, with plants covering each table for added privacy. With nice background music playing, we finally decided on our order – vegan barbecued ribs, breaded vegan fried chicken wings, seafood mac & cheese, regular mac & cheese, breaded vegan fried shrimp, and a shrimp wrap. It was a lot of food, but we wanted to try a bit of everything.
The food arrived in about 15 minutes, and we asked for takeout containers in anticipation of the large portions. The breaded vegan fried chicken wings were a pleasant surprise, tasting so close to real chicken. The vegan ribs were delicious with just the right amount of barbecue sauce. The seafood mac & cheese had a nice flavor, though we weren’t sure about the seafood chunks.
Overall, our experience was good. Though I’m not a big fan of comfort food, Dodah’s Kitchen has won me over with their vegan options. I particularly enjoyed the vegan chicken wings and ribs. And their cakes are a must-try if you have the chance. They truly stand out in the vegan dessert department.
I ordered the sweet kale, garlic kale, chickpea salad, and the cauliflower tofu with rice. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match my expectations this time.
• The kale dishes, although flavorful, tasted like they hadn’t been washed properly. There was a sandy texture in both, and I had to stop eating them.
• The cauliflower tofu bites were mostly dough rather than cauliflower, even though the sauce itself was good.
• The rice wasn’t warm, which made the dish less enjoyable overall.
The chickpea salad was great.
On top of the food, the atmosphere felt very different from my first visit. We weren’t greeted when we walked in, even though people were already seated and eating. The table available had food left on it, so we couldn’t sit and eat right away. Overall, it just didn’t feel as warm or welcoming as before, which was disappointing because I genuinely wanted this to be a good experience—especially for my son.
I’m not expecting anything in return; I just wanted to offer honest feedback about my visit today. I’ve had great experiences here in the past, so I hope this helps improve things moving forward.
So the atmosphere got a 3 for all the unedited music that was playing. The service was great. The food for most part was amazing. The seafood mac was a no for me. But everything else was a hit.. my non-vegan friend was even like they wouldn’t mind coming back. They really enjoyed their fish greens and mushrooms medley
I ordered the vegan shrimp po’ boy, and it was delicious! I’d say it could use a little more sauce (he actually offered me some, but he was busy with another order, and I had already devoured half my sandwich, so I didn’t want to bother him!). A bit less onion or lettuce would make it perfect, but overall, the food was fantastic.
I’ll definitely be making the trip out again for more!
After a 25-minute wait, I opened the box to find food that looked unappetizing — and unfortunately, it tasted even worse. The tenders were mediocre, the crab cakes were bland, and the mac and cheese was barely edible. I ended up throwing away 80% of the meal.
The only redeeming part of the experience was the Colada Moss drink — that was excellent. Everything else was a waste of money. I miss Grub Factory — the food was better, and the chef actually knew what they were doing.
The only slightly redeeming part of the meal was the string beans—but even those tasted like they had been sitting out for too long. It’s frustrating to spend money on food that doesn’t meet basic freshness standards. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t return anytime soon.Based on this experience, I wouldn’t return anytime soon. I’ve attached photos to illustrate the discrepancy between what I received and what they advertised online.
