We recently took a trip from Philadelphia down to Baltimore, Maryland to visit a little place we’ve been wanting to check out – Dodah’s Kitchen. Known for their fantastic vegan cakes in Philadelphia, it was a no-brainer to stop by. They are 100% vegan and we’ve heard so many good things about their food, we had to try it for ourselves.

Arriving on a Friday around 5 PM, the place wasn’t too busy as people were likely on their way home from work. The ambiance had a nice vibe, despite the cold air conditioning blasting at 60°. It took a little bit of searching to find someone at the counter, and there was a small language barrier as the person mostly spoke Spanish. However, pointing at certain items helped clear the confusion. After requesting to turn off the air conditioning, things started to feel more comfortable.

The layout of the restaurant was unique, with plants covering each table for added privacy. With nice background music playing, we finally decided on our order – vegan barbecued ribs, breaded vegan fried chicken wings, seafood mac & cheese, regular mac & cheese, breaded vegan fried shrimp, and a shrimp wrap. It was a lot of food, but we wanted to try a bit of everything.

The food arrived in about 15 minutes, and we asked for takeout containers in anticipation of the large portions. The breaded vegan fried chicken wings were a pleasant surprise, tasting so close to real chicken. The vegan ribs were delicious with just the right amount of barbecue sauce. The seafood mac & cheese had a nice flavor, though we weren’t sure about the seafood chunks.

Overall, our experience was good. Though I’m not a big fan of comfort food, Dodah’s Kitchen has won me over with their vegan options. I particularly enjoyed the vegan chicken wings and ribs. And their cakes are a must-try if you have the chance. They truly stand out in the vegan dessert department.

As a vegetarian I obviously I’m excited that a restaurant such as this exists. But I have to be honest I was a bit disappointed by the food. The portion sizes are large which I appreciated. But the taste was very starchy and carb heavy. The homemade sauce of that orange chicken or whatever it is was not great either. A lot of the side dishes were not fresh and clearly have been sitting there for a while. To be fair we went right before they closed. They had to make a new batch of ribs which took about half hour. The guy working there was very nice. I really hate knocking this place, because I wish there were more vegan restaurants. But I don’t think I’ll return. Prices there are quite high, too.

I visited Duda’s today around 2-ish with my son, who is a vegetarian. We were both really looking forward to enjoying a meal together. I’ve been to Duda’s before—years ago—and I remembered having an amazing chicken sandwich and a warm, welcoming vibe, so I was excited to return.

I ordered the sweet kale, garlic kale, chickpea salad, and the cauliflower tofu with rice. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match my expectations this time.
• The kale dishes, although flavorful, tasted like they hadn’t been washed properly. There was a sandy texture in both, and I had to stop eating them.
• The cauliflower tofu bites were mostly dough rather than cauliflower, even though the sauce itself was good.
• The rice wasn’t warm, which made the dish less enjoyable overall.

The chickpea salad was great.

On top of the food, the atmosphere felt very different from my first visit. We weren’t greeted when we walked in, even though people were already seated and eating. The table available had food left on it, so we couldn’t sit and eat right away. Overall, it just didn’t feel as warm or welcoming as before, which was disappointing because I genuinely wanted this to be a good experience—especially for my son.

I’m not expecting anything in return; I just wanted to offer honest feedback about my visit today. I’ve had great experiences here in the past, so I hope this helps improve things moving forward.

So this was my very first visit. I was informed of a vegan restaurant near my job. Anyway, I got the ribs, fried fish, collard greens, and ginger mint lemonade. It was pretty tasty for what it was. The lemonade was delicious. The greens were great. The ribs were not the best but were decent. I meant to do this review last Fri when I went. They should play edited music. I had my daughter with me. SMH . I wish the food could be covered because I saw fruit flies in seating area. There was no wait and two staff members working. I would recommend and go back again. The restaurant was very nice though but a lot of the items like cake and Mac and cheese were sold out.

Ordered to go and loved the portions. I’ve had their Mac n cheese from MOM’s Organics so I was excited to see they had a location in DC and wanted to try more food. The general tso cauliflower is very good! I love their vegan cheesecake as well!

Edited: so 11/2025 I came back and was so disappointed. My food was lukewarm even though worker told me it was fresh and I forgot that the seafood Mac was a no for me .. And it’s still a no the general tso cauliflower was not good at all even after I warmed it up to proper temperature and the sweet potatoes was bland… I had been so excited to get this food again… I’ll try the DC location because I can’t believe they fell off like this. The food looks cold in the pic doesn’t it

So the atmosphere got a 3 for all the unedited music that was playing. The service was great. The food for most part was amazing. The seafood mac was a no for me. But everything else was a hit.. my non-vegan friend was even like they wouldn’t mind coming back. They really enjoyed their fish greens and mushrooms medley

I took a drive out to Baltimore just to try Dodah’s Kitchen, and it was definitely worth it! The customer service was so friendly—the gentleman at the counter gave me time to check out all the options without any rush, which I really appreciated.

I ordered the vegan shrimp po’ boy, and it was delicious! I’d say it could use a little more sauce (he actually offered me some, but he was busy with another order, and I had already devoured half my sandwich, so I didn’t want to bother him!). A bit less onion or lettuce would make it perfect, but overall, the food was fantastic.

I’ll definitely be making the trip out again for more!

Paid $37 for a truly disappointing meal. I originally ordered the drummies but was told they were sold out only after placing the order. I was then offered tenders and crab cakes as substitutes. For sides, I chose mac and cheese and quinoa.

After a 25-minute wait, I opened the box to find food that looked unappetizing — and unfortunately, it tasted even worse. The tenders were mediocre, the crab cakes were bland, and the mac and cheese was barely edible. I ended up throwing away 80% of the meal.

The only redeeming part of the experience was the Colada Moss drink — that was excellent. Everything else was a waste of money. I miss Grub Factory — the food was better, and the chef actually knew what they were doing.

Purposely looked to patronize black owned vegan spots while visiting Baltimore and found this joint on Happy Cow. This was our 3rd black owned vegan/ soul food restaurant for the day, apparently Baltimore is the home for black vegan restaurants. I ordered the one entree and one side combo and ended up getting the vegan ch-kn drumsticks and potato salad. The drumsticks were by far the star of the dish. I’ve had these drumsticks before but Dodah’s treatment of them is by far the most delicious and memorable. The sweet potato cake was also delicious. The ambiance and decor are awesome. I would’ve taken more pics except that there were other people seated and eating so I didn’t want to snap their pics in the meantime. I loved the green/plant walls. My biggest gripe was with the service. The person who prepped our food and cashed us out wasn’t nice. I felt rushed, so they could get back to updating the chalk board they were writing on when we came in. I also didn’t feel comfortable asking any questions because the one time I did, it felt as if I was an annoyance. Why is service the thing that stands out? Again, I had been to two other Black-owned vegan restaurants already for the day and the service received in both places was great. I felt like the people at the other two restaurants who serviced me wanted me to spend my money with them. The service here at Dodah’s suggested that I had other options other than Dodah’s. So I recommend the ambiance and the food here, but I recommend one of the other vegan soul food restaurants if you value good service with your food.

I was really looking forward to my meal from Dodah’s Vegan Kitchen, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The food tasted old and stale, almost as if I had been served leftovers instead of a fresh meal. Comparing what I received to their usual presentation, it was obvious that quality control was lacking.

The only slightly redeeming part of the meal was the string beans—but even those tasted like they had been sitting out for too long. It’s frustrating to spend money on food that doesn’t meet basic freshness standards. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t return anytime soon.Based on this experience, I wouldn’t return anytime soon. I’ve attached photos to illustrate the discrepancy between what I received and what they advertised online.
