We began with drinks — a French martini as an aperitif, smooth and elegant but could have been a bit stronger and Bière Napoleon, which was genuinely excellent. Crisp, characterful, and far better than a standard house beers.
The menu is intentionally limited, but everything we tried delivered. We ordered different starters to share, including the Soufflé Cuit Deux Fois au Fromage Fumé, a twice-baked smoked cheese soufflé that was rich yet light and deeply comforting. The Soupe à l’Oignon Française Classique was full of depth, with a rich beef broth and melted cheese — classic and warming. We also enjoyed the Escargots au Beurre d’Ail Noir & Herbes, indulgent and beautifully done.
For mains, all three of us chose the meat. The steak was well seasoned and confidently cooked, paired with fries that were genuinely to die for — crisp, golden, and so good we went back for a second round. Too full for dessert, which is never a bad sign.
A relaxed, indulgent, and quietly confident experience throughout. Definitely a restaurant you should visit if thinking about a romantic destination.

Beautiful restaurant that captures the atmosphere of a classic Parisian eatery.
The menu is fixed with a choice of starters and desserts. The French Onion Soup was lovely. As was the steak for the main. Great sauce. Price is also very good and felt like cake for money.
Overall a great experience, service was a little slow but they did seem to not have many staff in when we were there.

Generous starters and desserts, set menu good value for money. Cocktails lovely. Lovely atmosphere very busy popular place, need to book. Staff very helpful. Even though they were exceptionally busy we were’nt rushed like other places tend to be this time of year.

Sometimes, simple is so much better.
A simple menu, a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful decor, and service that is do personal, you don’t realise you are in a restaurant full of people.
But although the menu is simple, the quality and the effort that goes into preparation is obvious. The food was beautifully cooked. The soufflé was light and tasty, and the steak so tender.
Of the three restaurants I visited over the last few days, Maison De Boeuf has got to be my favourite.

A truly romantic little French restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The music was perfect, the food and cocktails were 10/10, and the whole experience felt really special. I was even treated to a complimentary birthday surprise, which was such a lovely touch. Will 100% be returning!

Four of us came here last night and had an amazing time. Our server Harry was very attentive and friendly, offering his knowledge on wines and the menu when asked. The food was 10/10 and really flavourful, and Harry later came over offering more steak with our mains. The atmosphere as well is lovely, we really enjoyed the live performance too and the restaurant itself is beautiful. When Harry overheard we were here celebrating a birthday he came over with complimentary ice cream which was a lush surprise. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back in the future.

We ate at Maison de Boeuf recently . Atmosphere-wise, it largely lives up to its reputation. The room feels busy and energetic, though the effort to maximise covers meant our seating was sub-optimal, which detracted slightly from comfort. We chose the menu complet, a three-course prix fixe offering. Pricing was reasonable, and the service was a clear strength: attentive, warm, and well-paced, with enough time between courses to properly register each dish. That said, for a restaurant built around beef, the Spécialité Maison Steak Frites failed to impress. The cut was underwhelming. Not unpleasant, but notably disappointing and forgettable. The fries, however, were excellent , fresh and well-seasoned, and easily the highlight of the plate, compensating for an uninspired steak and weak presentation. The French onion soup was similarly underpowered. Flavour was muted, though the plating was visually appealing. This pattern of strong aesthetics contrasted with weaker execution; felt consistent throughout the meal. The wine was competent, though clearly marked up; it was serviceable enough that the overpricing wasn’t immediately obvious. Dessert redeemed things somewhat: the crème brûlée was the most successful dish of the evening and felt like a quiet apology for the main course. Overall, the experience was underwhelming relative to the restaurant’s concept and reputation. Strong service and atmosphere, inconsistent food. Final assessment: 7.5/10.

Obsessed! I love this place. The restaurant is in the beautiful arcade. The interior is lovely, really traditional, cosy, fab lighting and feel very authentic Parisian bistro vibes. Service was really lovely. The menu is a fixed prix, and very small. 3 starters, two mains (only really offer steak and chips) and 3 puds, but as long as you know that it’s a case of what they do, they do exceptionally well. I had escargot, and they were really good, not to earthy or grassy, plump and teeming with garlic herb butter! Main was fab, steak rare was more perfect medium rare, just how I like it. Fries were fantastic and serve with small green salad and a lovely home secrete sauce (defiantly some mustard and anchovies in there). A wonderful surprise was a top up of steak and offer if more fires half way through!!! I was too stuffed for pudding which was a shame. Cocktails were excellent, and a really good wine list. Small criticisms… the baguette with the starter was very average, the plate for the main was too small to really be able to eat the salad off of as well, and a few more options for wine by the glass would be great. But none of that detracted from this wonderful dining experience. Due to menu range not somewhere I would eat at repeatedly in quick succession, but as a non local next time I’m in Cardiff I be coming back for sure!
