Chen’s Family Dish : r/Medford – Reddit

Chen’s has a ‘normal’ American-Chinese menu. You won’t find Mar Far chicken or pink sauce here. It was not the best meal I’ve ever eaten or …

We are so happy to have discovered Chen’s Family Dish. My husband and I both agree it is very good local Chinese food! The service is great. The only reason why I dinged it by one star is because they use a rolling cart around to bring the food to tables and take dishes away. So that takes away a bit from the dining experience. Other than that, it’s actually quite good!

First time here. I had the Mongolian Style Beef which came with fried rice, two fried wontons and Egg Flower Soup. The flavor of each was very clean and very delicate. This is not your typical Chinese restaurant. It’s really a step above anything else in the area. Food was served FAST. I had soup on the table as fast as my drink was on the table and my main course was in front of me in less than 10 minutes. With a drink, the lunch special was only $18, so it is quite low cost. The hostess/waitress is very sweet, friendly and attentitive. I live 40 minutes from here in the neighboring city and would gladly make the drive just to eat here.

I live in Klamath Falls and was looking for a good Chinese spot around the area. There was none. So, I decided to go to Medford and try Chen’s because I heard it was good. This place did not disappoint, I was getting sick and tired of trying mid General Tso’s chicken from other Chinese places for over $15 but a lunch plate from Chen’s was only $12 and it was REALLY GOOD. The general Tso chicken sauce wasn’t overpowering with sweetness or spiciness it was THE perfect mix between the two, the egg fried rice was solid, and the Crab Puffs was also amazing! Will definitely come back again and totally recommend it!

Amazing Chinese food! They make most of the noodles there and everything tasted fresh. They have specialty soup dishes that I highly recommend. Portions were so big we had to take the leftovers home. The place is large and is great for big groups. Would definitely love to come back.

The service was excellent and I can’t say enough how appreciative we are for the friendliness and assistance of the staff. We did a walk-in to go order around 4p and it literally only took about 8 minutes out the door. The food itself was good but not what we would consider very flavorful much to our disappointment. The shrimp lo-mein was acceptable but on the plain side and the noodles weren’t real lo-mein style, they were very thin and and ramen-like. We also got the Hawaiian Style entree with pork and shrimp (they actually gave us chicken and shrimp but we didn’t catch it til we were home), which was pretty tasty but also more on the bland side than popping with flavor. We upgraded the white rice to fried but not worth the extra $3, not really “fried” like it’s supposed to be and too sticky. 2 entrees were $30 and change…. The meal was satisfying but we will try another place next time.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is undeniably fresh, the portions are generous, and the customer service is excellent. The staff is friendly and clearly cares about their customers, which I really appreciated. However, the food just didn’t work for me.

The flavors didn’t taste like authentic Chinese food—it mostly tasted like light/low sodium soy sauce as the only flavor and the food was just overall bland.

The chow mein noodles were tiny, undercooked, and clumped together with random glumps of sauce, which wasn’t appealing. It reminded me of undercooked top ramen with veggies.

I love potstickers; they’re my favorite…, but even those were disappointing. Kinda soggy. Bland etc.

My husband, on the other hand, thought it was “fine.” Describing it as “I donno it’s Chinese food.” and “Nothing special” but “nothing terrible” That said, his taste buds lean more towards Americanized comfort foods. So if you’re into plain, Americanized Chinese food, with kind of a healthier top Ramen vibe. this might be a great fit for you. But if you’re looking for authentic flavors, I’d suggest trying somewhere else.

We had an issue with our original order. We ordered some gluten-free items for our daughter that they made regular by mistake. I called to double check and confirm those items were gluten free because hers didn’t taste gluten-free. They said no that’s not gluten free and told us we had to order a certain way for them to understand what gluten free means due to the soy sauces. I was just gonna let it go and make her something else to eat because I was over it at this point. BUT… they actually offered to remake everything right away and were really kind and caring about it. Explaining that people get confused when taking orders not knowing soy sauce has wheat. So they DO have good customer service. (But please work out that allergy information. Let’s be real a customer should be able to confidently order gluten free if you offer it.)

The veggies were really fresh, almost “al dente” along with the low sodium vibe I can’t help but wonder if they’re trying to make a healthier menu, but haven’t gotten their recipes down yet. ‍♀️that’s kinda the vibe it was giving.

I can’t bring myself to give this place one star because of the fresh ingredients,(except for the noodles), the portion sizes, and the good customer service. But overall, I personally found it pretty disappointing and not worth the price I paid. Point blank… it was undercooked, unseasoned, not allergen free, possibly top ramen and not authentic tasting Chinese food. While I’m glad they were truly kind and remade everything for my daughter; driving all the way back across town to get my daughter’s food while everyone ate was also kind of a bummer. I appreciate them trying to help teach me how to order, but their staff should also be trained so that I don’t have to be hypervigilant when ordering from restaurants.

While there are some good things happening here. (Hence the mixed feelings.) and this place does have some potential. it’s not for me. Won’t be back… I don’t recommend.

Good luck though I hope things improve with your business.

I think this is my new favorite Chinese food restaurant. The food was great and the service was fast and friendly. I really enjoyed the General Tsao’s chicken, it was not over-fried and the chicken was not chewy like most places tend to do. I’ve if our dishes had tofu and it was cooked perfectly, I look forward to trying more dishes at Chen’s.

Went to Chen’s today for lunch. Perfect time around 1 pm. There were 6 other tables being served. We were seated and given our menu’s. We ordered Spring rolls and Tempura shrimp for starter’s. Delicious we shared with our friends that joined us. I got the Pho soup. Huge bowl of goodness, wasn’t able to finish so brought the remaining home. Definitely would recommend Chen’s and we will be coming back.

Came for another meal with our neighbors. Started off with crab puffs. Would suggest this hors d’oeuvre. Ordered the Wonton soup and it was very hardy with several wontons with vegetables and supreme broth. Here’s some pictures of tonight’s meal.

Excellent flavor, hot, not like warm and just good eating. We especially enjoyed the noodles and the spring rolls.
