One of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Chicago! Super cozy and quaint atmosphere after dark. Small dining room with probably no more than 10 tables – call ahead and they’ll reserve you a table!
The Queso Fundido was unique with chicken and a delicious creamy poblano sauce. Partner ordered Steak Enchiladas Mole and thought it was some of the best mole she’s ever had. I ordered the ribs and wow, the habanero cranberry sauce was savory with just a touch of heat. Our only complaint is all the food came out just slightly warm. Everything tasted so good, we easily looked past it but I hope things are hotter when we return.
Super friendly service. We’ll be back to try more of their menu!

Cool hole in the wall, few tables but great lighting
Everything was delicious. I thought the mole was incredible, rich and deeply flavored. I tried the fish enchiladas and the sauce there was almost curry like.
The ceviche (and all of the dishes) were presented really well and came out super quickly, I was impressed with the service.
My only feedback would be to have more premium tortilla chips.

This food! The spices, the flavors they pop! Best Mexican food I have had. Only second to a restaurant in Mexico City. It does not disappoint. Chef Noe cares so much about his craft and his customers. My new favorite restaurant in Chicago.
We got plántanos mole, miniflautas, and the poblano and mole enchilada. I will be dreaming of these flavors for weeks to come!

The food was delicious! The chicken enchiladas were stuffed with large chunks of chicken. They were a bit pricier than most Mexican restaurants, but you get your money’s worth. I was blown away by the salad, as I don’t normally eat salads, but the combination of greens with what seemed to be a vinaigrette dressing really made it very enjoyable. The atmosphere is great, and our server was very attentive.

Amazing food with stunning presentation. Highly recommend any of their enchiladas. Delicious, hand crafted, with great attention to detail. And everything tasted fresh and homemade! Took a little while to get menus and order taken after we were seated but once we did get the order in our food came quickly. Outdoor seating made it great for kids as well.

What first captured my attention was how small and intimate this restaurant was, a hidden gem, that’s tucked away and out of sight from the main street, like all the pedestrian friendly restaurants in Europe, South America and Asia.
But the food and service here was amazing, with their mole and ceviche made from scratch layered with so much flavor, texture, and just the right amount of portions for the price. Felipe our waiter was also amazing! The atmosphere was just about perfect with great music and lighting. I would like to come back and try their other authentic dishes but highly recommend!

We madeLast minute reservations( GREAT) ( walk ins are welcome but reservations highly recommended) its a small place so it can get & is tight seating). BUT , food, service and Vibes are excellent! Would recommend and definately coming back! We ordered 3 appetizers($$) and 3 different main course meals($$$) , you can tell this isn’t just an ordinary cook, it’s a chef( look at the delightful display of plates before we indulged in this Culinary experience. It was all really really good, and fulfilling.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful ❤️. They really went the extra mile to accommodate us on a very busy evening. The meal was truly delicious and they offer an excellent menu. Ambiance on point with everthing well thought and organized in a small space with great music on their playlist. We will definitely go back soon. Thank you “El Xangarrito” for a unique experience.

This is excellent authentic Mexican food and great ambiance. It’s cozy with great decor. I really loved the spicy pollo mole it was so delicious! Felipe our waiter provided excellent service and was very attentive.. and this place is BYOB. I will definitely return with wine!
