The kitchen was closed on the day we visited but the bartender was kind as could be and we enjoyed the hell out of our drinks. The patio is a great spot to enjoy the Red River main drag in this mountain town.

Tiana was an amazing server. You have to order the drinks at the bar and food at the separate register. The atmosphere was kid friendly. The food was ok. I ordered a combo appetizer, but there weren’t any potstickers or Buffalo cauliflower, lots of cheesecurds, 6 jalapeño poppers, and maybe 10 zucchini fries. The dressing options for the wedge salad were Caesar, Blue cheese, or Ranch. Chicken Tender Basket is reminiscent of Dairy Queen. The bathrooms were very clean.

A trip to Red River isn’t complete without a trip to the Bull. They always have “the game” on and are generally fast service. They serve some basic bar food and the restrooms are clean. We like hanging out around the firepit outside.

First off we ordered the Mac and cheese with BBQ on it and the chicken fried steak dinner. When the order was ready we got one set of silverware and was told to grab plastic cutlery off the wall. The Mac and cheese was cold so they said they would make another and in the meantime my husband and I was sharing the chicken fried steak using the plastic knife to cut it and the mashed potatoes were cold so we just didn’t eat them. The Mac and cheese came out again and it wasn’t much warmer so had about two bites each of it.

We’ve tried nearly every restaurant in town, so we decided to give The Bull O’ The Woods Saloon a try. In hindsight, the 4th of July probably wasn’t the best day to do it.
The setup is self-service — you order food at the counter, wait for your pager to go off, and pick it up from a takeout window. Drinks are ordered separately at the bar, which also had a long line.
After waiting nearly an hour, I checked on our food and was told that our ticket was still sitting in the printer — it hadn’t even been started. It took another 15 minutes before it was finally ready. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the wait. The chicken tenders and fries were overcooked, almost burnt, and the BBQ plate was underwhelming at best. And, we didn’t get our Texas toast with either meal.
For almost $70 for lunch, drinks, and tips, I expected better. I understand it was a busy holiday, but they seemed unprepared and overwhelmed. Disappointing experience overall.

I’ve always loved this place, it’s simple and down home but today I witnessed them completely disrespect a disabled vet and his dog. The customers (the vet and his family) were so kind and talking to everyone. Their daughter was home on leave celebrating her 22nd birthday and son leaving to the marines in 3 weeks. Amazing kind people but the staff told the father (disabled vet) that his service dog could not be in the restaurant and were extremely rude about it. When the family took their drinks to go outside where I thought all dogs were permitted, the staff continued being rude and told the customers to leave. The family did absolutely nothing wrong so I’m confused but very disappointed that they would treat service members this way. I left and will not return, very disappointed how they treat service members including disabled members. Shame on you Bull of the woods. We were not the only ones that left, several tables got up and left due to the behavior of the staff.
