I ordered the carbonara, which came with a fried egg and pancetta, though I do wish the meat portion was a bit larger (although difficult to complain for $15).
The vibes inside the restaurant are very clean, modern and chic.
The service seemed a bit slow (we waited ~20-25 minutes for 2 plates of pasta), but I think it’s because they were making each plate of pasta fresh to order.
Overall I’d say if you’re not in a hurry it’s a good place to get a decent affordable plate of pasta.
I’ve had five things on the menu here, you can’t go wrong. I really can’t believe this menu is handmade and less than $20 per plate. Anywhere else in town you’re pushing $30.
Great food, super quick, kind staff. Don’t let the low prices and fast service convince you this is a casual food spot – this is as good if not better than any pasta spot in Portland.
One note with takeout: the timing is often inaccurate. It almost always says 55min wait, but I’ve never had to wait more than 10.
Thank you Grassa!
One of us has celiac, and they were able to provide gluten-free pasta cooked in separate water. The staff at the counter described which other dishes could be prepared gluten-free.
The roasted beets appetizer was excellent, had a nice horseradish tang to it.
The pork belly mac and cheese was phenomenal.
Will definitely be returning!
The star of the show, of course, is their handcrafted, house-made pasta. The Pork Belly Mac n Cheese was pure perfection—fresh, tender, and cooked to the perfect al dente texture. You can genuinely taste the love and craftsmanship that goes into each dish. The Spaghetti and Meatballs were equally amazing, and the Pizza Pocket was a delightful surprise: incredibly flaky with a filling that was both flavorful and perfectly balanced.
What truly sets this place apart is the attention to detail. Every sauce tasted freshly made with high-quality ingredients, complementing the pasta without overpowering it. Even the garlic bread was exceptional—perfectly toasted and bursting with flavor.
The service was top-notch, with staff who were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. It’s clear they take pride in providing an outstanding experience for their guests.
Whether you’re a pasta aficionado or just in search of a warm, hearty meal, Grassa is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back again!
It’s a bit on the more expensive side but worth exploring.
