Fun date night. So glad the place is still around! Used to frequent before the pandemic. Now we live further away…
All food were good options. Got the Serrano Margherita. House special pizza (small size), half & half manicotti (meat and cheese), cheesy bread with marinara dipping sauce, and a Ceasars salad.
For dessert we got tiramisu, which wasn’t to our specific tastes…, but it might disappoint you if you enjoy tiramisu at Olive Garden, etc.

I loved my time at Caro Amico! It was so fun because of the food and atmosphere. The owners came around to visit, checked-in (like the movies!) and the server was terrific, professional and attentive. All of our food was so yummy! We had four dishes. My red tomato sauce was fantastic, perfectly balanced and fresh. Still thinking about it, my cannelloni’s pasta was light and soft, the meat was flavorful. My son’s Chicken Alfredo looked great. He ate the whole thing, which was a feast. My daughter ordered a pasta with sautéd vegetables, I would order that, there were so many fresh veggies. Next time, I’m ordering the lasagna though because it looked amazing. The wine list is personally picked and extensive. We had cocktails which were sophisticated. I love this place, you won’t be disappointed!

I found this little Italian gem on Google while searching for something not too far from our hotel. And I’m sure glad I did! This is a true old school Italian restaurant. While it’s not fancy, it’s definitely not basic either. The menu has great options – even for vegetarians – and the food was delicious. I HIGHLY recommend the ravioli with vodka cream sauce. I could eat that every day! We also had the Caesar salad and the Alfredo pizza and both were delicious. We skipped dessert so I can’t speak to that, but the service was great and the whole experience felt like a nice hug from your Italian grandmother. The 90+ year old owner was even there greeting everyone and walking from table to table asking how everything was. And you can color on the table cloths! 🙂 It was a lovely dining experience and I highly recommend!

Went there with my family (which included my two young kids), and every one of us LOVED the experience and the food. They had just created a kids menu and my kids loved what they ordered and ate it all. The lasagna is addicting and I will be ordering that again. They gave me a birthday dessert on the house and it was the best cheesecake I’ve had. Their spumoni ice cream as well was one of the best I’ve had too. Large portions, so I suggest you go hungry.

The new version of Caro Amico isn’t quite as good as I remember. It’s still got a nostalgic vibe which I love, great views and solid food, but the pizza recipe has changed and you no longer get the cute little chocolate mints that we used to love to end the meal. We used to come here for the amazing thin crust pizza, it was the only place in town that served it and it was incomparable. The pizza I had was fine, but didn’t stand out from so many other places you can get a good pizza in town. The others in my party had great pasta from lasagne to Alfredo and the bruschetta was so fresh and garlicy, but I came for the crispy crust pizza and was disappointed that the recipe has changed.

Classic Portland restaurant and vibe! if you want to go back in time to when Portland was a small undiscovered city that was still affordable for artists and working creatives – travel back in time to Caro Amico! Thank goodness this delightful restaurant survived the pandemic and all of the changes to the city! Incredible cocktails, they are unique and one of a kind crafted by the staff. Delicious and nuanced food. Thoughtful, fun. And kind staff. Don’t miss it ❤️

Expensive for the quality of the food, basic, and the server appeared a little rough, possibly from staying out late. I wouldn’t recommend the pizza because it is flavorless and dry. A decent drink is something that the bartender needs to learn how to make!

Wow! I couldn’t love this restaurant any more! The atmosphere is sophisticated and yet familiar, cozy and inviting! The outdoor deck seating in an early Fall evening was glorious! The food is upscale yet traditional and truly authentic Italian fare! Simple ingredients prepared to perfection! Such a culinary delight! I am gluten free and had one of the best meals I’ve ever had! The staff were kind, professional and attentive. The chef substituted veggies for the pasta and I couldn’t have been happier! If you’re in Portland, you must visit this historic Italian gem!

My lady found this place and hails from Italy so we went to check out the food. There is very little proper parking here and the little lot they have was full so you will have to find street parking in the adjacent neighborhood so I’m glad we were driving her car. We came into the place from the Barbour side and you walk through the restaurant and go down some stairs to the host station. Not sure how folks in wheelchairs navigate the place. Now, to the food. My lady loved it and I thought the food was great but since I’ve never been to Italy, my opinion does not count as much as hers. For dessert we had the Tiramsu and for dinner I had the scallops and pasta plate that the table next to me recommended and I ate it all. Prior to dinner, we had antipasto plate. One thing I really liked was the time between appetizer and dinner. Some places, you barely finish your appetizer and the main course is already coming out so there was plenty of time between. For drinks, I had a Manhattan and Old Fashion and my lady had some compari drink (uh yuck).
