Our visit to La Casse Museau in Lyon was a truly enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome that set the tone for the evening. The restaurant has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere ,unpretentious, comfortable, and full of genuine charm . Just what you hope to find when enjoying traditional Lyonnaise dining.
The food was splendid celebrating classic regional cooking with great care. A particular highlight was Aunt Paulette’s chicken, which everyone at our table chose, and for good reason. It was beautifully prepared, rich in flavour, and deeply comforting a dish that captures the soul of traditional French cuisine.
La Casse Museau perfectly combines outstanding food with heartfelt hospitality, making it a place you instantly want to return to. If we are ever fortunate enough to find ourselves back in the city of Lyon, we will certainly be returning .

As traditional of a Lyonnaise “Bouchon” as you get. Already from the setting, via the service to the dishes.

Atmosphere is lovely yet peaceful and the service makes you feel like you’re at a family restaurant.

Food is well tasting and a good example of traditional local cuisine, but perhaps a bit too heavy for me. But it’s worth a visit if you’re in town.

– Value for money? Yes
– Worth a detour? Maybe
– Best for (occasion)? Traditional Lyonnais food

A very charming and busy traditional bouchon. Great atmosphere, and excellent service. Overall, the food was good – but not really to my taste. Great experience however.

Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant we stumbled across. Traditional lyonnaise dishes but absolutely stunning execution. Aunt Paulette’s chicken was unreal with their slow cooked and crispy skin in their sauce, steak was cooked to perfection. Intimate setting

Excellent traditional lyonnaise food with very kind service and very warm and cozy atmosphere. Tried the œufs en meurette, chicken with gratin dauphinois, the cheese saint Marcelin and for dessert the tarte praline (typical from Lyon). Located in a very nice neighbourhood and street and a must visit for Lyon!

While I appreciated the history of the restaurant and the chef’s respect for traditional Lyonnaise food, I have to admit that most of it was not for my palate. For entrées we ordered the Oeufs Meurette (poached eggs), and the Terrine du Chef. The poached eggs were quite nice. The terrine was cuts from a forcemeat loaf that were rather tasteless. For plats we ordered the Andouillette Tirée à la Ficelle, and the Quenelle. What the English description of the Andouillette in the menu fails to mention is that it is made from the membrane lining the calf’s small intestine. I recommend any food enthusiasts considering this dish to do their own research prior to making the jump. I can attest to the many other testimonies on the internet that this sausage undoubtedly retains the scent and flavor of what goes through the live animal’s intestine. It might be hailed by many, but certainly not for everyone. It also looks quite unsettling inside. But you never know, you might love it. The Quenelle was interesting. It sort of tasted like an omelet. The creamy sauce was nice, but it didn’t taste like langoustine at all. For dessert we had the lovely Tarte à la Praline, and Crème Caramel. Both were delicious. The Tarte à la Praline was very sweet with a nice crust and texture. The Crème Caramel was more restrained with the sugar, but just as enjoyable. The bitter caramel was a lovely contrast to the soft fruit filling and the rich, creamy ice cream. Dessert was most definitely our favorite course. It was quite the experience and we would have wondered about the food if we hadn’t tried it for ourselves.

Situated a stone’s throw away from the Hotel de Ville and Musée des Beaux Arts, Le Casse Museau is a lovely “bouchon” that is a must-visit if new to the culinary experience of Lyon. Warm personable service, incredible food and wine pairing, and an authentic atmosphere.
