This seems like it’s a great place to buy wine, but it is not a welcoming atmosphere for sitting, tasting, and relaxing. Because the door was open and there were tables and chairs inside, I thought I would be welcome to sit for a while and sample wines from the vending machine. Instead I got the feeling I was annoying the staff behind the desk. After milling around the store for several minutes, staring at the machine and wondering how it worked, I had to ask for help, and then again when I was ready to pay. Maybe some people prefer this kind of hands-off service, but I happened to want a little more assistance. I was also asked to move to a smaller table, which I was happy to do since they were setting up for an event later in the evening, but I felt rushed in the process considering there were no other customers in the store. Considering what a large space this is, and in a prime location on Churton Street, I think this is such a shame. With better hospitality, this could be a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine with friends, and they would also probably sell a lot more wine, to people like me!

Writing my first ever google review because CH/Hillsborough WC is a wonderful store, with a great selection and very helpful staff. Sam & Co. will help you find the perfect bottle (or case!) for any occasion/budget. Plus they have an informative and user-friendly website too, and free Triangle delivery on orders over $300.
IMO you’d be well-served by skipping the sea of mediocrity at the big retailers and heading in for some personalized recommendations and truly excellent wines.

I came in and asked the shopkeep for the sweetest bottle of bubbly for NYE and he pointed me to a bottle of Vietti Moscato d’asti 2022 and i thought why not for about $20 I’ll try it! Best wine I ever had!

The only place you should be buying your wine in the Chapel Hill/Durham/Hillsborough area. Sam is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to picking different wines. This is a high five stars recommend!

Pearl was very helpful and kind, however the other woman (I did not get her name) did not seem to want to help us at all. She was entering us into their customer rewards system and another customer walked in that Pearl went to go help. Rather than finishing up with us and helping us, she abruptly left to go talk with the other customer without saying anything and it felt very rude and off putting.

Great store, selection and service, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable!. Jen has been able to get a spanish vermouth and sherry we had while in Spain. that I could find nowhere else! I am already a repeat customer!
