The bruschetta was a highlight, served on a long board with a generous amount of fresh toppings. The Pesto Gnocchi had a perfectly balanced and savory pesto sauce, and the Caesar salad was fresh and light. What I especially liked was that all the food was well-seasoned, flavorful but not too strong.
We sat at an outdoor table under a tree. The setting was nice, but we did have a few small leaves and twigs fall on the table. The design of the chairs was also a bit uncomfortable because there wasn’t much space for your feet. However, the service was very friendly and welcoming.
Overall, the food was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it, and I look forward to coming back again. Next time, I will try sitting indoors.
Overall, my food is always excellent and well flavoured. My favourite is the huevos benny. All the other staff were lovley and provided great service in past vists. When I have had other servers, I notice a clear difference in professionalism, attention and attitude. It is clear that a change in management is nessecary. It would be a shame for one person to ruin an overall lovely little restaurant.
We ordered to different hash dishes, the duck confit was super dry and the medium poached eggs were nearly hard. The huevos hash had been under the warmer for apparently a bit of time causing the hollandaise to make a bit of a skinand these medium poached eggs were hard. Both dishes seriously lacked any seasoning. I would have asked for salt and pepper (which aren’t at the tables) but the server didn’t stop in to check on the food until I literally had 2 bites left. I could have flagged her down, but at that point I was pretty done with the place.
It’s tough to judge what the dishes could have been as they lacked seasoning, but the duck hash, even if seasoned ate bitter with too much mushy arugula throughout and nothing to cut through mushroom and dry duck. The huevos claimed to have a habanero sauce, but it had zero spice. Again the balance of the dish was off, it needed a little spice. So it didn’t eat bland.
Having worked in food & bev for 20+ years, I got the vibe that something was going wrong. I don’t know if it was sick calls or till/system issues but the stress from our server was noticeable. While as a worker I can sympathize, as a guest it was a horrible experience across the board. While I would like to write it off as a bad day, I feel like this is a place that had a good execution when the menu was made (it reads quite good), but when you can’t even season the food correctly, I am done.
1. Confit Duck Hash
– The mushrooms in this hash were delicious, the star of the dish. The duck on the other hand tasted bland and gamey, not a flavour profile you want to start your day.
2. Crispy Duck Benny
– I misunderstood as I thought “Crispy Duck” would be crispy skin, but this is in fact a deep fried and battered duck. The duck itself was extremely thin and I was mostly getting a mouthful of breading. The breading was indeed crispy. The duck here was also bland but not gamey. On a side note, the english muffin was burnt on the edges, a small error that can be easily fixed. I enjoyed the potatoes and the egg was cooked perfectly.
Overall we both wished we ordered non-duck items as other aspects of our dishes were delicious.
Everything they offered was hand made. I was surprised that they do a handmade tomato sauce too. This is a premium restaurant with excellent good recipes.
Quantity and quality were flawless.
