We where named after a simple road that was traveled by the founder on a daily basis called The windy gap. He lovingly called his new saloon & grill Windy Gap. It started as a small family-owned business in the heart of downtown. Over the years, our restaurant has grown to become a staple of the community, serving delicious food and drinks to locals and tourists alike. I finally got a great steak at a great price, perfectly cooked, good size, and good thickness. The sweet potato fries were awesome and cold hit the spot, next time, I’m trying the wings and mountain oysters, awesome staff, and all-around good environment

This place was incredible. Buddy and I were looking for a lunch place other than fast food or quick grill food and found this place on our way to Montana. The lady behind counter suggested their buffet or menu. We tried the buffet. OMG. As my buddy commented the food tasted better than what his mamma makes. And I know his mom and her food is great. This food was so flavorful and great price. The local customers were friendly. We are stopping here again on our way home.

The food is fresh, you HAVE to get the onion rings, and if they have a special going, GET IT!!
Sorry to say, but the Windy Gap has MUCH better food now than Ole’s, even though the latter has a much more storied history.
Go in, get a beer, some rings, and a burger, and you won’t be disappointed!

Great food, great staff of people. Quick and easy. Good specials most nights of the week. Pool tables and some games available, some entertainment for people of all ages. Small salad bar but enough to call it side salad. Prices are reasonably fair and the portions will never leave you hungry. It’s worth the drive for sure, or if you live in Paxton, it’s walking distance from nearly any home! Definitely a weekly repeat for me!

Do you LOVE a small town restaurant with food and daily specials that don’t disappoint?! Windy Gap restaurant in Paxton, Nebraska is it! Today’s lunch special is New York strip steak with baked potato, corn and a garlic bread stick for $12.95. Steak was juicy and tender. Garlic stick is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The patty melt off the menu is thick hamburger, sauted onions and melted American cheese on toasted marble rye bread. A side of crispy waffle fries completes the meal and is one of the best I’ve ever had. Reasonably priced. Come hungry!

Party of four ate like kings on a Wednesday night in May 2025. Great steaks and daily specials that far exceeded our big city expectations – wow.
I can’t wait to go back. The simplicity of the place and service model was refreshing. Local folks packed this place.
Marinated whiskey steak was exceptional. Good burger – the juicy lucy was huge. Salad bar, fries, and sweet potato fries were as expected & high quality.
