Great place for fresh fish! The unagi was great! We had 5 servings! The Seafood Dynamite was amazing, the Brussels sprouts were yummy and the lobster was tender. My son loved the hamachi carpaccio. The unagi avocado roll (without the rice) was really good! Very small portions. We went for happy hour and dropped over $300!

We actually popped in after canceling from a nearby bar that only opened at 5pm.
We met the wonderful Dwayne “the pebble Johnson” (his joke, not mine). As first timers, he introduced us to some his favorite dishes and drinks.
My wife had the Tanjero (a lemon drop inspired cocktail) and she loved the passion fruit flavor.
I actually casually mentioned my stomach was a little sensitive, and he did everything from offer soda and bitters, to recommending some tasty but not heavy dishes.
We could not be happier to have found this restaurant and their good reviews are very well deserved.

Sushi was very fresh. All the food was very tasty. We required gluten free for one person and they told us everything they could offer which was a lot. Then they told us the items they could alter to accommodate gluten free. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. We really enjoyed the meal. They have a happy hour with reduced prices too.

Oao is truly exceptional. While visiting, we asked several locals for recommendations, and this spot came up again and again. We’re so glad we listened. Our reservations at a high-end restaurant fell through, so we decided to try our luck here—and it turned out to be the best decision.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The oysters and sushi practically melted in our mouths, and we were fortunate enough to sit at the bar and chat with the owner. He shared stories about working with his family and even recommended other great spots, like HACHI in Kihei.
It was an amazing experience from start to finish. We completely understand why the locals love this place, and if you’re in the area, you absolutely shouldn’t miss it.

One of the best sushi experiences ever! Upscale restaurant with the nicest staff. Our food was delicious, we ordered the crunchy dragon roll and the red dragon maki roll and they were incredible. Would highly recommend for a fancy dinner date! Yum!

My husband and I came to Oao last week while in Maui for our honeymoon. This place was amazing! We sat at the bar and the staff was really friendly and food came out quickly. The sushi here was so fresh. We went to a LOT of poke and sushi places while in Hawaii, and the fatty tuna maki roll (the exact name of the roll is escaping me) was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my life! We also really loved the spicy tuna/crispy rice cakes. So delicious!

Oao Sushi in Maui easily deserves five stars—everything about my visit was outstanding. The service was attentive and genuinely warm, making me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. The sushi itself was so fresh, with each piece prepared so thoughtfully that it practically melted in my mouth. I’m visiting Hawai’i by myself, but all my friends with local knowledge told me to go to Oao, and they were SO right. It can be hard to eat out by yourself, but everyone was really warm and welcoming (special shout out to my server, Iggy!). When I mentioned that I love sushi but that I’ve never been able to get over my aversion to seaweed, he told me they can do soy paper. Not all places do that and I was so thrilled. He even noticed when I stupidly tried to order something with seaweed and saved me.
I ordered too much and loved everything, but the Negi Hama was unbeatable. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a nice, chill place to hang out.

Please go here for happy hour! The prices are amazing especially considering how delicious and fresh this sushi was. Every roll was to die for and the service was awesome. Will definitely be back!!
