Cozy cafe with a retro vibe offering cakes & pastries, plus all-day brunch with a French twist.

We had a decent experience here. I will say, it seemed like they were a little short staffed. We saw our waiter maybe a couple times. There was another young lady who would come by and help him by refilling our waters. We did appreciate that. The food was delicious. It was also large portions for the price. I thoroughly enjoyed my iced horchata latte. We sat out back and it was peaceful and we could chat easily.
Overall, it was a good experience. I think they need more staff. Our waiter seemed to have a lot of tables and that’s why I think we didn’t see him but 2-3 times (take our order, make sure food is good and then check).

Phenomenal. Best meal we had on our trip to San Diego. Food, ambience, service; all were perfect. Isabell our server was incredibly kind and helpful. Oh, and don’t miss out on the beignets!

We had originally went to eat at day and night cafe. The service was so poor over there, the host didn’t even acknowledge us and made us feel invisible that we decided to come over to the bakery. So glad we did. We were instantly treated with kindness. The host told us to sit where ever we wanted and offered to clean a seat for us in the front. Complete shift in vibes. We sat in the back and our server was very kind and attentive. Food was pretty good. I would say the atmosphere was just amazing. Beautiful table and love the lavender and herbs right next to our table.
Would eat here again. Food and service was great. Alcoholic drink madame lavender was also top notch. Created some nostalgia from relatives that have recently passed and we are so happy we didn’t go to day and night cafe.

Decent food and coffee, great ambience, feels like a French café. I ordered a honey lavender latte – it was good but not amazing. Pricey for the taste. My butternut quiche was good, light and fluffy, flavor was slightly lacking but good with hot sauce. Overall, ambience is so intimate and cozy, would be perfect for a brunch date.

Only have an opinion on the Bakery Side as we didn’t get to try the Bistro.
It’s a quaint place with a lovely interior. Was able to try some of the most exceptional pastries I’ve had from a bakery. Only regret was not being able to try more.
Ended up getting a Madeleine and a Chocolate Cake Piece for take out. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. But this Madeleine turned out to be one of the best I ever had. It was nicely sweet, light, airy, and most of all, moist. More often than not a Madeleine from a bakery will tastes like it’s been sitting on display for weeks. It’s sad that the massed produced Sugar Bowl Bakery version will be better than most fresh Madeleines. Not here though, Clayton’s version is very well balanced. It is even chocolate dipped which just adds a nice contrast to the buttery cake/cookie. I didn’t take a picture of it because unfortunately the little flower decoration they put on each Madeleine was crushed and not photo ready after transport. The same can be said about the Chocolate Cake. While no longer looking it’s best, it was still exceptional. Dense, decadent, chocolaty, this was quite the indulgence. You’ll love this if you love chocolate. It’s straddling the line of too intense while still being balanced. Both of these were exceptional.
So other than the pastries getting all beat up during transport, (I don’t see any other way of better protection without increasing costs and waste), at least the Bakery side of Clayton’s is an easy recommend. The pastries, while unassuming, are of incredible quality and balance. I just wish we were able to try more of what they have to offer.

Perfect place in Coronado for a brunch, coffee and catching up with friends. It was not full, so we could pick our spot and seat where we wanted. We had a winter quiche, very well executed with balanced flavors, and a generous portion of berries. The bagel with schmear, salmon and micro greens was perfect. It was still morning so we ordered coffee but then we had to have the caramel macchiato, served beautifully in a big mug. Everything matched the bistro atmosphere. Abigail was our waiter, should I say our favorite waiter for now on? Sweet and beautiful, young waitress, impeccable make up, hair and manners. She understood our vibe (we were there to enjoy sunny California in January weather), she helped us choose and let us comfortably enjoy and eat. Very European service, we had the opportunity to take our time and enjoy catching up. A bistro experience is not only about the menu, but the atmosphere and the genuine hospitality, and that morning Abigail really delivered it! Thank you!! I know it’s a teamwork, and I didn’t get everyone’s name, but please thank the chef and barista.

My friends and I came here to eat delicious food and drink coffee. My friend wanted to come to this place because of its high rating and interesting interior design.
In fact, I really liked the atmosphere in the place. Especially the fact that there were a lot of beautiful flowers. They also sell a variety of jams, drinks, bread, teas, and tableware. Everything looks really nice.
But as for the food, I was not satisfied at all. We had three different desserts and none of us liked them. Maybe I didn’t understand something ♀️. The coffee is okay. I can’t say that I liked it or that it was bad, just normal.
I also did not like the fact that many items did not have prices listed.
I can’t say anything bad about the place, but I personally didn’t like it. This is just my opinion.
The interior of the place is really

Very disappointed with my custom cake order. I ordered a cake for Christmas and when I went to pick it up it had a few small cracks. They didn’t appear to be that big so I was fine with it since I needed it for the night. I drove 15 mins home (not a bumpy ride) and when I opened the cake it was fully cracked. The small cracks spread to the whole cake. I called to let them know and they just thanks for letting them know and sorry about that. Very disappointed especially since I had the cake custom made for a special event.

Bakery- This place has the cutest Frenchy pastries! The store is the sister store with the Clayton’s Coffee Shop. The full name is Clayton’s bistro & bakery because they have a bistro restaurant next door. When I stepped into the bakery, I am totally obsessed with the cute decos and pretty pastries. Every single pastry looks like an artwork. Especially the giant macaroons, they are so pretty, I feel bad to bite to break it. Although they look beautiful, they taste awesome as well. The mini carrot cupcake probably one of the best carrot cakes I’ve ever had, the cake itself is so dense and full of ingredients and flavors. I also love the cream puff, the cream inside tastes the right sweetness and super creamy. I can’t wait to come back to try other things. The service is very nice and friendly.
Bistro – One of the best breakfast & brunch places in Coronado! The restaurant itself is very pretty, you totally feel like you are not in US but somewhere in Europe when you are inside the bistro. The interior looks very cute and frenchy, feeling relaxed and artsy. The food here is delicious as well, we ordered the croissant sandwich and is absolutely so good, especially the croissant, so well baked! There also so much cheese and meat in it, very big quantity. The salad is very yummy as well. The service is nice too! Very good place.

Clayton’s is that charming little spot that punches way above its cafe vibes. The service? Friendly and on point. The menu? Way bigger than you’d expect—and surprisingly solid across the board. I didn’t meet a dish I didn’t like. Heads up: weekend waits can feel like you’re in line for concert tickets, but once you’re seated, it’s smooth sailing. The space has that retro-cute thing going for it, with cozy indoor seating and a chill patio option if you’re feeling the sun. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area and not in a rush.
