We stopped by on our way from Houston to Dallas. Excellent service! Excellent food! The Texas Toothpicks (sort of like onion rings, but stick shaped, with onions and jalapenos) were really good. We tried all the sauces with them: the ketchup, the home-made tartar sauce, the home-made horseradish sauce, and the ranch. This was my first time trying hush puppies, too, and those were a nice addition to the meal. The sweet tea was refreshing. The food was very filling, so we didn’t think we would get dessert. Our waitress brought us samples of three types of bread pudding: original, pumpkin, and pecan. Our favorite was the seasonal pumpkin bread pudding, so we got it to go. This was a great experience, trying southern seafood in a small town/ rural area.
I wish I’d gotten the name of our waitress. She was wonderful! Very friendly, hospitable, efficient.
On a side note, the fried okra is okra fried in batter, not to be mistaken with sauteed okra (which is what I thought). It wasn’t a problem since they gave me an opportunity to eat all of those sauces again.
P.S. Menu posted in my photos. The menu is expansive — there are many options and many combinations of main dish and side dishes. There is even alligator and frog legs, if you’re into that.

Great little restaurant. The fish and shrimp were perfectly fried. The hushpuppies and fried okra was perfect as well. AND!!!!! One of the best bread puddings I have ever had, and I have had a lot of bread pudding. I was so enthralled with the bread pudding, that I forgot to take a picture.

Wow what a place. We had the dinner salad and it came as a chop salad. It was remarkable and the blue cheese dressing was fresh and with plenty of chunks of blue cheese. The stuffed mushrooms are made fresh here with a creamy seafood sauce topped with Parmesan cheese. They were broiled not fried. You Can’t hide bad food when you broil it. It was top quality. They were crazy good. I had the grilled salmon with green beans. The salmon was served perfectly cooked tender and flakey. Many more expensive restaurants serve salmon overcooked and a bit on the hard side. MMC had the broiled catfish and shrimp. Again the catfish was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. Many places over salt the catfish to make up for poor cooking but not Shrimpy’s. The seasoning was as delicate as the cooking. For first time visitors you get a sampler of the best dishes, and we agree that everything on that sampler was worth a try on our next visit. Especially good was the clam chowder and the crawfish etouffee. We also decided that the smoked salmon was worth getting as a take home order. If you ever have had smoked salmon in Alaska or from an old world Jewish deli and bagel joint in either NY or NJ then Shrimpy’s smoked salmon will remind you of that quality and taste. To round out the meal Rene brought us a sample of the Heavenly bread pudding. It was so good we changed our desert order from the key lime pie to the bread pudding. It was so good.
When you visit ask for Rene and she’ll take care of you. She also knows lots of local and Shrimpy’s facts so she is interesting, informative, and attentive. The other waitress was also nice and she refilled our ice tea but didn’t interact with her much.
We even got ice tea to go.
Down home location with extraordinary food and Extra special service.
This is a place you should definitively make a special trip for. When you turn in it looks like you are turning into an RV park. Don’t worry, it just on the right side in a tiny unassuming building.

Ordered a jumbo shrimp platter, comes with 2 sides. Shrimps and other things were great. I got to taste their shrimp gumbo, shrimpy rice, alligator and their signature bread pudding, everything was top of the line. My server was very helpful and I got a great service. Also got a chance to speak to the owner, he is a soft-spoken great gentleman. It’s a hidden gem, a must visit place in Madisonville Tx.

You must stop here! It feels like home when you walk in and they will make you feel like family. I met the owner the other day and I don’t think there is a nicer person on earth. She sent us home with her famous bread pudding and it was amazing. If you do not have time to eat PLEASE pick up some heavenly bread pudding you will bot regret it! Thank again for being such a lovely person!

Great place for seafood. I had the all you can eat catfish though. Looking at other people’s plates I could see huge shrimp on their plates. My catfish was delicious. Sides were just ok. Service was great. Prices aren’t to high. Will definitely g.j o back and try the shrimp and crab.
