Not the best Thai food as you can see in the pictures. We’ve been to the other 2 Thai restaurants on Madison and we’re surprised this wasn’t equal. The Kao Soi has crispy noodles on top and the same noodles cooked underneath. Almost no vegetables in either of out dishes. A good restaurant delivers a plate that looks delicious. Our plates were brown noodles, very disappointed.

Mama Thai was a lovely experience. I had the appetizer plate and the Pad See Eiw with shrimp and beef. Topped it with some peanut sauce, delicious! The service was great. And had a nice conversation with Ruti(sp?). She’s a sweetheart Looking forward to returning.

Best Thai food in the area. Puts all the Thai places in Chicago to shame! Great atmosphere, not long wait and professional service. The crab rangoons are the best ones I’ve ever had, good cream cheese to crab ratio, I also ordered the duck noodles which had a lot of meat that was cooked really good. Very tender and juicy and flavorful. I like when good meat can just shine in its taste without any spices clashing with it too much and those noodles really hit the mark in my opinion. My husband had the mild curry and it was very, very good, if you only order one thing, order the mild curry. It was sweet and a bit spicy. Unfortunately they don’t deliver to Chicago so if you have any recommendations for Thai restaurants in Chicago please let me know!

Freshly prepared & flavorful! For under $70, my son, husband & myself came away with leftovers (which I am enjoying rn – yum!).
If you let them know that you will pay w cash, you can get $30-70 range a fee order of egg rolls. Over $70 a free order of pad Thai.
We had pot stickers, 2 panang curry w chicken, pad mee yao, thom kha soup and i had a glass of wine. That got us free egg rolls. We were very close to the $70 transition & anything extra would have gotten us free pad Thai.
Delicious!!

Was charged an additional $5 for duck in the of Thai AS well as additional $5 for beef in the pad see ew. I did not see any of those charges on the menu and was upset that it was not expressed. There was about two small pieces of duck in the pad Thai, which is really sad considering the extra charge. Both dishes were bland. Although, the Shrimp in a blanket were delicious.
The restaurant was pretty empty and I understand why.

Great food. Great service. Kind staff. Great prices. It waa quaint and quiet when we visited probably because it was so cold this time of year.
I had the roasted Cornish hen with rice. The sauce was amazing, a spicy plum.

Love this neighborhood staple. The food is consistently delicious…I mean always. I recommend the shrimp in a blanket and spring rolls to start. Then the garlic pepper chicken, pad Thai, or Penang curry. These are my favorites but really you can’t go wrong. I tried the bbq pork noodles and they were delicious. Also their sweet & sour sauce is addictive. (Don’t drink it. You will feel like you want to but don’t. Just use the sauce on your food. Lol)
The staff is very friendly and attentive too. The prices are good as well but it’s all worth it at the end of the day. I will eat at this restaurant as long as it available.

One of their signature dishes the duck is disgusting along with the so-called Special Sauce it’s disgusting as well to say the least. Also the complimentary egg rolls with a $30 cash purchase is the other joke it’s disgusting no flavor. No authentic music in the background it’s just dead there it’s so boring and the atmosphere is just depressing to say the least. The staff are not friendly the main girl up front only cares about money and it’s just not good authentic food at all. The staff needs to go to Thailand and relearn how to make proper Thai food they are a disgrace to the Thai population and cater to people that don’t know optimal taste obviously. The curry is not even good at all and lacks flavor the catfish is supposed to be another delicacy that unfortunately was another disappointment! I am warning you not to go here and to go somewhere else to your research accordingly and do not spend your hard-earned money here this place is a joke and nothing is authentic or tasteful here at all!

UPDATE: Its been over a year since writing my review of Mama Thai, so I thought an update would be good. I just had the Crab Rangoon/ Golden Crab again, and I’m amazed at how good it is. The wontons are crispy, not burnt or soggy, there’s an over abundance of crab filling, and the sauce they have is the best I’ve had. It is still as delicious as it was the first time I ate it. Oh the the rest of the food is damn good as.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
I’ve been eating here for almost 10 years. It was the first Thai restaurant I visited when we moved to the area, and still one of my 2 favorites near me.
The food is always delicious, whether eating in or takeout. Their Crab Rangoon is my family’s favorite of all time. It’s the right amount of crispy to filling and the dipping sauce I could just drink straight! I go for the pad Thai sometimes, and the Curry’s the rest of the time. I had the curry fried rice a couple of times and it was excellent. All in all a great place for dinner or lunch.

Our family love eating here. Such a cosy atmosphere, the food is fresh, quick and high quality and the staff are lovely. It reminds us of our favour Thai restaurants in London. The curries are good, fried rice always a hit, frankly we have not had a bad dish. My kids particularly love the ice which comes in these tiny little balls ♥️
