We always sit outside with our dog. The outside tables could be improved for stability. But the food and drinks here keep us coming back. We love the skewers for a late night snack and drink. Then we also tried the ramen and udon. Wow. For a small place in Hoboken… not bad at all! The udon broth is better than most places in Chicago. And I tried a bite of my hubby’s spicy ramen. It was so good. I can’t eat spicy food but it was tolerable for me. Don’t be fooled if you don’t see Asians eating here. It’s because it’s Hoboken.

Very quiet and comfortable ramen shop at edge if Hoboken. Was large portions and reasonable prices. Looks like many locals come here. Parking ️ can be tricky depending on day and time. But it’s comfy they have Japanese cooking shows playing on the TVs and staff was friendly. It’s long restaurant the food came out fairly quickly too

Love this place! Such a fun spot to hang out and catch up with friends The ramen is so comforting and full of flavor, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. I ordered the ramen, takoyaki, and fried ice cream. I’ll definitely be back – you’ve got to check it out!

Not salty, even late at night! Most Japanese ramen broths are too salty and leave you thirsty for hours, but this one isn’t. Honestly, it’s the best Japanese ramen I’ve ever had. I’ve been to many famous ramen spots in Little Tokyo, LA, and I’m a true food hunter.
The kimchi here is the real deal—not a fake version. I’m Korean, so I know what authentic kimchi is. The kimchi ramen is amazing too. My only problem is that I’m gaining weight because I finish every last drop! 🙂

Shokudo – Hoboken, NJ
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food:
Okonomiyaki
• Unique and flavorful — I’d never had one before!
• Great appetizer to share.
Spicy Pork Donburi
• Meat was fresh and tender.
• Spicy mayo added a nice kick.
• Missing something to take it to the next level.
Beef Nabe Udon
• Noodles were slightly overcooked — I prefer more al dente.
• Broth was decent (I liked it more than my boyfriend did).
• Meat lacked flavor.
• Loved the vegetables like mushrooms and peppers!
• Might go for ramen next time.
My boyfriend and I ended up here after exploring Hoboken — walking through the Hoboken Italian Festival and along the waterfront. The service was warm and welcoming. While I wasn’t blown away, everything was fresh, well-prepared, and came out quickly – plus, it was all reasonably priced! I’d come back to try other dishes, especially the spicy pork buns or spicy miso ramen.

Only rating the food as I ordered delivery for the first time. Food arrived super quick & well packaged. Had the vegetable shumai, fried chicken, shredded BBQ pork & rice and the miso ramen. Absolutely delicious, all of it. My partner loved everything too. Thanks for a great meal!

The fried vegetable dumplings were really good. I had the vegetarian miso ramen which I asked them to make extra spicy – which turned out to be moderately spicy, and more smoky than spicy. The quantity is pretty good, and overall the flavour was good too. However, I wish the broth was slightly more flavourful.
My husband loved the spicy fried chicken.

Shokudo in Hoboken delivers a standout Japanese dining experience! The dishes were great, beginning with the yakitori, which was succulent and well-seasoned. The ramen stood out with its savory broth and perfectly tender noodles. The dumplings were exceptional, offering a burst of flavor with each bite, and the ice cream tempura concluded the meal on a high note, providing a delightful crispy yet creamy dessert that was uniquely satisfying.
The atmosphere at Shokudo is welcoming, with modern decor and a warm vibe. Service was prompt and courteous, enhancing our overall experience. Shokudo is a must-visit for anyone in Hoboken looking for exquisite Japanese dishes in a friendly setting. Highly recommend for a delicious and memorable meal!

We had the pleasure of hosting our daughter’s 3rd birthday here yesterday! It was a cozy restaurant vibe with spectacular service! All of the service staff from serving, hosting, kitchen were so nice and friendly. We pretty much ordered 4-5 quantities of every single possible yakitori skewer from the menu and I would say that while the yakitori skewers were overall good, I would highly recommend specifically the pork belly, chicken meatballs, and chicken wings.
I would say for food – to be honest, I’ve had a lot of authentic true yakitori places in both NYC and CA (ranging from Japanese small stores in CA to a yakitori place with a Michelin star in NYC), and my honest take on Shokudo is: it’s a way to get above average yakitori in NJ without having to go to the city for great yakitori but more than just the food, we will definitely be coming back again just off the service alone!
