Tried this place for the first time today. Waited like 15 minutes in line. I actually called to ask if the drive-thru was open cause it seemed like the cars were just parked in the drive-thru. They need to take down the sign in the front that says “best carne guisada in town”. It’s definitely not. Roy’s Taco Hut is better and they give you 1 little salsa container per taco you order. I ordered 6 tacos from Chelitas and I got 2 green salsas and 1 red. They were 1/3 full if that. I’ll NEVER go back here just based off the stingyness of this restaurant. I’m telling everyone I know. I don’t care for a response. If I could, I’d get in a time machine and just go to Roy’s instead. Screw Chelitas.

This is a must try!! They just moved to this location from up the street. More seating and a little better parking. Same great food and prices!! Nice people and totally amazing food!! It’s totally worth giving a shot!! I had the puffy tacos (first time having them here) and they were fantastic!! Beans, rice, tortillas always great!! (Yes tortillas are made in house!!) Prices and great as well!! Support local small business!!

It was our second time here. Decided to try another of my favorite dishes the Carne Guisada Plate. It was delicious!! A large portion, with the fresh tortillas (corn or flour). Amazing. And friendly service.

I’m from the area and had never tried this restaurant. I’ve heard so many people rave about this place. I had breakfast with my daughter today. I had 3 tacos and she had a carne guisada plate. All my tacos were barely warm. The cheese didn’t melt at all after sitting there for a good minute and it taste like…..refridgerator of that makes sense. My picadillo taco was so greasy it ended up covering my whole plate with grease and my country guisada was super salty. My daughters plate was good in flavor but there was more fat then meat on her plate. The costumer service was good very, sweet ladies. Price was good too. Nice little spot but the food was underwhelming. Unfortunately.

Making my way through 20 local restaurants and this was my first stop. I love that it’s small and cozy. It definitely gave me “12 years old living off Buena Vista vibes.”
The chips were warm and fresh. Not stale at all and the green salsa was a thumbs up from my husband. He loved that it came warm. We ordered 2 Mexican plates and loved that everything is served as if you’re a guest in someone’s home. Little things like that matter and I feel like you’re more apt to find these touches in places like this vs chain or larger establishments.
The puffy taco was fresh and I say this because I often find the shell is old or cooked prior. Veggies were nice and cold and when a place uses American cheese instead of cheddar, it’s always better! Also when a place uses 100% avocado with zero filler, you can’t go wrong.
Lastly, the fajitas were tasty. My son gives them a 7.5/10. Tortillas were hot and fluffy just like me .

Well sad to say this place is good but the service for drive thru sucks. It takes way too long to order and to get your food. I literally waited for 40 minutes to get my food. The people aren’t bad it’s just the wait time at the drive thru and there prices are way too high for 1 taco is almost $5

Friendly neighborhood restaurant offering delicious Mexican food at reasonable prices. I ordered their gordita lunch special which came with tea or soda for under $6. My plate came with two gorditas, rice and beans. Yum!! Came back on a Tuesday and had the cheese enchiladas with beef sauce and they were so good! Highly recommended!!

Okay so I have three tacos I use to initially judge Mexican restaurants. Potato & Egg cause that’s a classic and if you mess that up how can I trust you? Carne guisada because that’s all about getting the spice right AND slow cooking the beef correctly, you cant rush art and a tough carne guisada taco tells me a lot. Lastly a chicharron taco because I feel like that not the most common taco so its easy to slack off on the “less popular” tacos.
SO! Where does Chelitas stand? Part of me wants to tell you this place sucks because its already too busy and its getting tough to get a table at my new favorite restaurant as is! So all I have to say is if you hate flavor and delicious tortillas youre gonna hate this place! Lets face it, do you REALLY want to have the best tacos in San Antonio just so your standards are raised and everywhere else now falls short? Its hard to see 4k and go back to VHS, so stay away from these 4k tacos for your tastebuds…
