I had been a regular here years ago, but nowadays every time I go it seems like a constant barrage of the bartenders refusing to serve people and kicking people out. I finished my drink and left yesterday because my buddy got kicked out 2 minutes after he walked in the door. I had always looked past the fact that the place poses as a “dive bar” yet the beers are like $10 each, and when I do not know of a single establishment that has banned as many people as i personally know, the image falls apart very quickly. also the outdoor seating area in the summer is about 1/5 of the size it used to be. the only thing worth going to this place for is to play darts, they have a good area for that. Other than that, I’d recommend going to a place where the staff isn’t on a power trip and the drinks are half the price

Historic tavern located right on the Providence River, on the east side of the pedestrian bridge. The building itself is very cool, it’s pretty roomy and the old style brick walls will make you feel like you drinking in a true colonial tavern. I enjoyed the beer list and they were all reasonable priced. They have a pool table, two dart boards, a couple TVs, and someone even came in with a chess set, so plenty of stuff to do. I was able to get in with my Colorado ID without an issue. It’s also close to downtown, so easy to find other places if you’re bar hopping or just aren’t feeling the vibe.

First time visiting here and really enjoyed the ambiance with lots of original exposed brickwork and beamed ceilings. Service was excellent and a nice range of beers at reasonable prices. Pool tables and dart boards are available for further entertainment.

It’s an excellent place, great prices and great staff. However, on a late night it would be nice if I could actually hear the music that was playing. It’s very distracting to only hear the chatter of other people around me. Other than that. Nice place.

Great assortment of craft beers. Tables inside along with bar seating and darts. The bar staff is awesome. This is a historical spot so stop in and embrace the brick cellar setup.

I’ve haven’t written many bad reviews but I think it’s necessary for tonight. The bartender Liam refused to serve me since I threw away my can inside but there was no garbage outside and immediately left after being told to leave. I was sitting outside waiting for my friends and he threatened to ban me and call the police. I’ve never been treated so poorly in my life and I really would like to speak to a manager about this situation. I’m a repeat customer and every time I’ve dealt with this bartender he’s been an issue…..

Classic College dive bar Wood recommend the guy at the door. Logan was really cool and was fun to talk to. He needs a raise.

The Wild Colonial is the kind of place you can sneak in at 7:30 on a Tuesday night for a scotch and a pint and a quiet conversation, and by 8 it’s jam packed. The tavern balances a nice old world feel with a clean modern attitude very well, and has an excellent selection of whiskies and an ok selection of regional beers. Prices are more or less what you’d expect. The open rustic colonial feel of the place is almost a surprise considering how unassuming the hole in the wall doorway looks. The location is very convenient to downtown, so there’s no reason to think about a car. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in Providence.

TL;DR: The atmosphere is still great, but the service has taken a serious turn for the worse. The new bartender was incredibly rude. Sadly, I now understand the negative reviews. I recommend skipping this place.

I’ve been a loyal patron of The Wild Colonial since 2021. It’s been my favorite bar in Providence. I bring every friend who visits to this spot. The drinks are solid, the crowd is fun, and most of the bartenders over the years have been great.

However, my most recent experience completely changed how I feel about the place. I was overcharged for a $7 drink. This is not something I would normally make a big deal out of, but when I politely brought it up, the bartender immediately became aggressive. He yelled at me, called me a liar, and kicked me out of the bar. He even said, “you always do this,” which is completely false and baffling, especially since I’ve been coming here for years without a single issue, long before he ever started working there.

I asked if he could check the CCTV footage to clear things up, but he refused and insisted he was right, doubling down on the accusation.

After this happened, I went back to look at the reviews and saw that several others have mentioned similar problems with rude service. I used to dismiss those comments because I’d only had positive experiences, but now, I unfortunately understand where they’re coming from.

It’s really disappointing to see a place I’ve loved for so long change like this. I hope management addresses these concerns, but until then, unless you want to get kicked out of the bar for no reason, I can’t recommend a visit to The Wild Colonial.
