I cannot say enough good things about Great Papas Gyro. The plates are absolutely incredible!!! generous portions, perfectly seasoned meat, and the rice is so flavorful and fluffy it honestly steals the show. Every bite tastes fresh and homemade. You can tell they truly care about the quality of their food. On top of that, it’s family-owned, and you feel that warmth and pride the moment you walk in. First and foremost. I live in Chandler. That’s a 40 minutes one way trip. I was craving gyros really bad and I looked up what was open. This place showed it open until 2 AM. It has great reviews. Awesome I’d love to to try it. I waste my time, gas and put mileage on my car. I get here. I park right out front. All their open signs are in and flashing. I’m starving just waiting to take a bite. I go to open the door and it’s locked. There’s keys on a door, no employees. I call thinking maybe they’re in the back. No one answers the phone. I wait a bit more thinking they might be in the bathroom. In the 10 minutes I’ve sat here I’ve watched 2 different employees walking around f the restaurant. I’ve called 3 more times with no response. They are very obviously closed. They need to update their times and not only that, at least turn off your open signs. For everyone’s information, i arrived at this restaurant at 10:30 pm. Way way before they ever close. Waste of my time and gas.

Went here for the first time tonight and I was so delighted by the food! The gentleman working there was very kind provided me with a sample of their Samboosa and it was delicious! They have this pink sauce that it came with that is so amazing. We also ordered gyro and chicken shawarma plate, which were both so so good! We will definitely be going back. Had great ambiance and looks to be owned by a nice family who are all working there together.

The restaurant is in a nondescript strip mall, and the exterior is nothing special. However, once I stepped inside, I was totally impressed. It was warm, inviting and impeccably clean. There are beautiful murals on the walls. But the best part was the small woman who took my order. We had a bit of a language situation, but she made certain that she got my order right. And she is just the nicest person! Oh, and the food. I ordered a gyro combo for my son. It was prepared exactly the way he wanted it and, according to him, it was delicious. I will definitely be returning here and, if you like Mediterranean food, you should visit too.

I pulled up here at exactly 12 AM. The restaurant was closing. The lights are off and the lady working inside was about to lock the door. She seen me pulling up and getting ready to leave. She stopped me and told me to come inside and order. She turned the lights on, turned the equipment on and made my food. I have been in a restaurant industry over 20 years and never once in my life have I seen this done. This is an example of one of the greatest experiences of customer service I’ve ever had. Admittedly, I did not have high expectations when I stopped in for a bite to eat as some of the older reviews were mixed and I have had Mediterranean food all over the valley (and the world for that matter). However, Great Papa’s Gyros is under new (family-owned) ownership and this has to be the best Mediterranean food I’ve ever had! From the Shwarma to the Kabobs and the Dolmas, everything is so well seasoned and flavorful it is truly next level! Whatever you do, don’t forget the homemade Baklava for dessert!
PRO TIP: call and place your order ahead if you are in a rush. Everything here is made with love from scratch and takes time (but is well worth the wait). Don’t miss this gem.
