Possibly the worst food I have ever had in central PA. Waitresses were fine, service was fine, they did their jobs.

The atmosphere was that of a nursing home dining room, and the clientele matched. The food was brought out with lids on it straight out of said nursing home. The first shock was seeing the prices in person not matching the downloadable PDF menu straight from their website. Oyster Rockefeller was listed as $11.99 and tonight was $17.99. The filet mignon were listed at $75 menu price when the website shows it as $34.99. The blackened tenderloin was listed as $11.99 and was $24.99 in person. Having such terrible food would have been easier to swallow if it was half the cost.

Apparently on New Years they have less options available because they are busy, instead of the normal having more options for the holiday that other places do. Wines on the menu not available. Garlic bread was mentioned, and yet wasn’t available this evening.

Ordered the Oyster Rockefeller. Very little oyster and mostly cooked spinach on the shell. Bread service was laughable. Seemed like a grocery store loaf with a single slice per person.

Ordered the filet mignon expecting a dang good steak for $75. I could have bought a $12 one from Weis and made a better steak at home. It was the size of a brick and not evenly cooked. One steak was ordered medium rare and came out closer to rare. Ordered another filet medium and it came out blue in the center, not anywhere in the same realm of medium. Ordered onions alongside the steak and they were barely cooked and on a separate plate, not even on the steak. The potatoes were awful. My Irish ancestors rolled in their graves when I took a bite. They were barely soft and for some reason had water in the bottom of the ramekin? Not sure why.

In short, can’t recommend eating here, ever. Would recommend anywhere else. I normally don’t roast restaurants like this, but for the sheer cost and egregious quality of the food it felt necessary. I stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home and their food was better.

The overall experience was a positive one.

The food was delectable, wait staff was highly attentive, and the overall atmosphere was pleasing. The dining rooms were quiet allowing tables to have their own conversations without being loud and obnoxious like most chain restaurants. A place that I would recommend for any intimate celebrations or anniversaries.

An appetizer, two entrees and two desserts coming in roughly around $130 not the most expensive menu items, iin the middle range of what was offered.
Starting out with halloumi cheese and a piece of garlic bread cooked to a soft and creamy texture. Crab cakes and chicken perfectly moist, savory, and the right amount of sear on the outside to maintain texture and flavor. In ending out with a slice of carrot cake and some type of chocolate layered cake what might have been shredded coconut in it.

Do not let the prices scare you, there are cheaper options and it’s definitely worth a try at least once.

Went for Valentines Day. The food was really good but the service was horrible. We never got bread, until we had to ask, the server forgot my husband’s drink so he went to the bar himself. When our food did come he started to give it to the table next to us (they had just finished their meals) and he gave us the wrong check at the end. Although we got a good laugh at all the weird things that happened you’d expect fantastic service especially paying $75 for a steak. Most likely would not go back. (Again, the food was 8/10)

Tavern on the Hill is always a good choice for larger group events. I have not eaten at the restaurant itself, but have been part of several group engagements there. The staff is very attentive, friendly and know their jobs well. The atmosphere is great, though it can be pretty warm on days when it’s warm and sunny out. It is an atrium, after all. So you should expect that. Highly recommend for group events!

I’m sure on a day that isn’t Valentine’s Day, this place is better, but we made 8PM reservations and didn’t get to sit until after 8:30. Not that big of a deal. We can be patient. But Then when we are seated, it takes more than 10 minutes to place drink orders. Then a table that arrived after us and was seated after us, gets greeted by our waiter and they are instantly able to place drink orders and food orders. they get their drinks before we even get to order our food. Then we get our drinks. Then our waiter goes away for another 10 minutes or so. Finally when the table next to us who got seated after us gets their salads, we are finally able to order. It’s very upsetting and frustrating. This place ran out of ALL forms of potatoes and roasted veggies. All they have is salad, peas and rice. I guess we reserved and came and waited for only a steak and seafood and a salad essentially. we still don’t have bread and butter which the table who arrived after us and got seated after us have received. I have yet to eat anything here after being here for more than an hour so will return with how the food is but so far between the prices and the service, this place does not seem to be worth while. Update* approximately 7 minutes later, they are out of rice. The table next to us who arrived after us got their food and we JUST received our bread at the same time. Still no salads or apps or any drink refills.

Great experience, good was amazing and our server was fast and very nice. Only exception is when we have a reservation at 8:30pm. And we don’t sit at our table till 9:30pm. Waiting an hour in the waiting room kinda sucked but everything else was amazing!

We took my mother here for her 70th birthday and she loved it.
Our server, Mark, did an excellent job. He was personable and very helpful throughout the meal.
I found the staff and manager to be extremely accommodating.
This would be an easy recommendation to anyone looking for a more upscale establishment in this area.

Anyone who considers this fine dining needs to get out more. Just because a restaurant charges an outrageous amount for a meal, doesn’t make the quality or atmosphere any better. For anyone looking for a “special occasion” meal, go somewhere else or you will be greatly disappointed. Below average in all aspects.

I had an absolute terrible experience this past Saturday. Let me first say that it was Valentine’s Day, and it is possible that is why. That said, there is no excuse for the for the following events. I made my reservation weeks in advance. We arrived earlier than the reservation to check in. We were never seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time with not so much as an apology for the delay. Once seated, we were presented with what I can only assume was a special paper menu specifically designed for Valentine’s day. The choices were limited. The prices were heavily inflated. None the less, we ordered our drinks. The only non drinker ordered a diet coke and and the server brought out a regular coke. In fairness, she did catch her mistake when it was time for a refill. We place our order and the food was delivered in a reasonable timeframe. This is where the biggest disappointment starts. The ladies in our group ordered garlic and butter prawns over pasta. This dish cost $42.00 and was served with three very small shrimp over a tiny amount of pasta. They said that the dish was good but were left hungry. These are not big women. I ordered a what was supposed to be a Prime aged New York Strip steak. This menu item cost $65.00 and was served with some sort of snap pea and potatoes medley with tarragon seasoning. It was awful. The steak, which was ordered medium, was delivered medium rare. This is not a huge deal to me because I can eat my steak to the rarer side if needed. This steak was so marbled with thick fat that I could not cut ope piece of it without fat in it. It was so bad that I had it boxed up and gave it to the dogs when I got home. I honestly feel like I could have gotten a better choice cut N.Y. strip steak from Karns out of the case. I’d also like to mention that we had to request napkins halfway through the meal. It was my suggestion to invite another couple to join us. I was so embarrassed by the service and quality of food that I picked up the tab for everyone. I’d like to think that all of this was because they were so busy and so over booked for this night but in the end, it all felt like a big money grab and I felt exploited. Maybe it was just a one off but I will never know because after spending close to $360.00 for this dinner for four, I’ll never return again. They’ve been around long enough to know how to do it right. This nigh felt like a choice.

We were treated to dinner here as part of a work trip to the Capitol, so I can’t comment on the price, but I can say it was an elegant dining experience! The service was top-notch and each plate of food was amazing! Even something as straight forward as a Ceasar Salad was elevated by a delicious homemade dressing. The Chicken Piccata was incredibly flavorful and the chocolate cake was so rich it’s almost indescribable. We were lucky enough to be joined by some state representatives and you could tell this was a very popular restaurant for those serving at the Capitol. My only criticisms would be that our table bread was plain, cold Italian bread and I would’ve expected a warm basket of homemade rolls, and the restroom is in desperate need of a refresh. As well maintained as the dining area is, I was surprised no money was spent to update the restrooms.
