The highlight of my meal was definitely the Xun Yu. It had a perfectly crispy exterior and a tender interior, coated in the classic sweet-and-sour Shanghai-style sauce. The other dishes met expectations but didn’t particularly stand out.

We had a 10-people reunion gathering and it was a perfect excuse for us to enjoy this authentic and delicious Shanghainese restaurant.
All of the dishes we ordered were perfectly made, and we enjoyed everything (there were a couple of vegetarians in the group so we ordered 3 vegetable dishes which was great.
The overwhelming favorites were: the special Grilled beef short ribs ($48 so count it as 2 dishes), celery with Lily, and SH braised pork.
The service was prompt, but we got the sense they didn’t prefer us to stay too long and catch up after we were done with our meal.

Food was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. Old school chinese vibe with a touch of class. Great for big groups.

Love coming here with my family for a consistently good traditional Chinese meal that isn’t hard to get a table at – highlights are the hunan fish head and (don’t @ me) kung pao chicken! Among a number of other delicious dishes

The food here is very good—authentic flavors that really satisfy! However, the service needs improvement. After we were seated, we felt ignored for a while, which took away from our experience. The atmosphere is similar to many Chinese restaurants, but the restrooms could be cleaner.

Food portions were good, flavor and presentation was very good and the service was fast. Ordered salted mixed rice, Shanhhai style pancake, veggie in sesame oil, fish filet with sea weed, chicken with sesame sosa, sing qua with dry shrimps and sesame rice ball in wine.

Growing up, a typical weekend always consisted of a large family friend gathering where the kids would awkwardly converse while the parents laughed and drank. The round table would be filled with a large variety of food to share and each spin brought you a different dish. Thinking back now, these memories were a huge part of my childhood and have shaped and influenced my love for food and the way it brings people together.
Recently I went to this restaurant that I’ve gone to ever since I was a kid and was able to truly appreciate the beauty that is Shanghainese cuisine. This cuisine is on the sweeter side and has a good balance between sweet and sour flavors. Here are some classic dishes that Shanghai is known for:
1. Crispy Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce 松鼠全鱼
2. Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant in Pot 百花茄子煲
3. Fish Fillet with Seaweed 香脆苔条鱼
4. Braised Pork in Brown Sauce上海滩红烧肉
5. Shanghai Style Spare Ribs 上海小排骨
6. Sauteed Lamb with Pancake 小炒羊肉包饼
7. Sweet Lotus with Osmanthus 桂花糖莲藕
8. Baby Shrimp 深海虾仁(清炒/龙井/百合)
9. Soybean Leaves 大豆苗
10. Eight Flavor Sweet Rice Cake 秘制八宝饭

Food is delicious. Favorites include Shanghai Spare Ribs, Lion Head soup, lamb wraps, rice noodles, and dumplings. Food is brought out promptly, but service can improve. You need to ask for tea pot to be refilled. No one will come check and ask how your food is. But so far, food has always been consistent. If food is your priority, you won’t be disappointed.

I just don’t get it. This place should have a rating close to 5.0/5.0. The dishes are so delicious and well prepared. This is the best restaurant during our 4 day trip in LA. Btw we stayed at Anaheim. And the restaurants rated 4.5/5.0 in Ervin are nowhere near the level of this one.
